Two qu alifyi ng races had to be held in the
125cc Novi ce class to whi tt le it down to 40
riders. Th e 125cc No vice main wa s th e final
race of the day and capped off a great week·
end o f comp etiti on . Dav id Bu d i k , o n a
Kawasak i , and J ared Garn er , on a YZ2 50F,
waged an intense battle for first pl ace. Gamer
grabbe d the holeshot , but Budik appli ed heavy
pr essure immed iately and sli p ped in to t he
lead when he cut to the inside and got aroun d
Gam er at the bottom of Horsepower Hill at the
beginn ing of lap two . Th e lead bou nced right
back to Garner, however. when he pop ped up
out e f T hund er Valley in front of Budik . The
K awasaki ride r was unfazed and poured on the
gas going aroun d the big sweeper on the nex t
lap and pulled in front of Gamer's Yamaha for
th e fina l tim e, taki ng home the first- place t ro-
ph y . Seve ra l sec o nds behi nd the fron t -ru n ners, Sheu n Haase rounded out the top three
