Saturday evening featured a cookout host ed b y B ob an d Jan Pi st ol e , as well as th e
Mai co Owner s Clu b . Race rs spent th e eve ning
bench -ra cin g o ve r burgers, swee t co rn , and
waterm elon . It really was th e perfect end to a
great day of racing.
Sunday ' s racing proved that Saturday was
no flu k e. Race one aga in c onsisted of a lar ge
g roup of Post-Vintage classe s, a nd Ulti m a
500cc wa s th e c lass to wa tc h . Ho nda rider
Greg Rose p luc ked the ov erall wi n, ahea d of
Richard Kurth , Ch ris E rskine, George Wilensk i
and Bob B riggs .
T he Ulti m a 250c c Novice class was so lid,
with Brandon W ise recovering from a first -turn
crash in th e seco nd mota to pilot his KTM to
th e win , over Dan Hig gins and Ray Sollars.
In t he Class ic 5 0 0 c c Expert class, B SA
g uru Claude Mc Elvain and Bult ac o -rn ou nt ed
Ti m Swai n were in a dogfigh t all afternoon .
When the dust settle d , Swain had earned the
to p spo t. over McElvain and bra nd -new E xpert
Paul Grant .
In the Vint age O ver 60 No vice event, Fr ed
Ziglar returned t o co mpetition aft er a two -year
hiatus. Zig lar took his B ultaco to to p ho nors.
and it was good to see him back racing .
Perhap s the best sho w of th e wee ke nd was
Sund ay ' s " Pisto le Race." Bob's son Chad Pisto le roll ed his Maico to th e lin e as a m ember
of the GP 500cc Expert cont ingent. Chad 's
brot her Josh decided that he' d like to get in on
th e action , to determine who was th e faste st in
the fam il y . While not w anting to disru pt the
r aci ng sc hedule o r the o t he r rac ers. J o sh
decided to run unsc ored in a special "Pist ole
Expert class." Wha t fo llowed was a jaw -dro pp ing d em o n st r at i on o f y ou th , ski ll and
m ach in e, as the brothers j um p ed . whipped
and frees ty led their way a rou nd t he course
and ran away from th e fie ld . Ask either Chad
or J osh who won, and the y 'll both t ell you , " I
did ." In fact , ask the boys and th eir dad who is
fastest of th e th ree, and th ey all chime in with ,
" l am ."
