Thor/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series Round 5: Walden Playboys Motocross QillJ@m@~@ (illJJlJU1)O ~~(@) @~ (illJJ @~@ dropped out of the top five. Robertson moved up to fourth and Tom Bruno to fifth. On the next lap, Carsten passed Leavitt for the lead. Wallace was close behind in third, but there was a huge gap back to fourth-place rider Andrew Pingotti. Leavitt, feeling pressure from Wallace, went down on lap four, giving Wallace the runner-up position. Leavitt remounted in third. Wallace then closed the gap on Carsten to two seconds by lap five but dropped his thumper in a corner, quickly remounting in second but handing the win to Carsten. Leavitt, Paul Veracka and Casey Clark rounded out the top five. Carsten led the start of the final moto, with Ginolfi, Wallace, Leavitt and Robertson trailing. Near the end of lap two, Carsten bobbled, and Ginolfi and Wallace closed the gap; just a bikelength separated the top three. Ginolfi passed Carsten on the finish-line jump for the lead at the start of the third lap but could only hold on for a quarter of a lap before Carsten got back around. Wallace passed Ginolfi for second about halfway into lap three and set out after Carsten. Veracka and Clark held fourth and fifth. Wallace closed the gap on Carsten and made the pass for the lead on the last lap and held Carsten a bay for half a lap, getting the moto win and the overall. Rounding out the top five were Veracka, Ginolfi and Clark. In the supercompetitive 125cc B class, John Lawrence led the start of the first moto, with Jay Weller, Peter Katsoules, Rashidi Kerrison and Dan Zabrowski in tow. The top three were unchanged at the start of lap two, but now Brian Bagley and Eric Bartholomew rounded out the top five. Weller passed Lawrence for the lead just before lap three. Weller and Lawrence were in a class by themselves, with a 10-second gap back to Katsoules, in third. Weller took the checkers with a five-second advantage. Rounding out the top five were Lawrence, Bagley, Katsoules and Robert Marshall. Lawrence and Marshall led the start of the final moto, but Marshall STORY AND PHOTOS BY JIM P. SANDERSON WALLKILL, NY, JULY 27 \0) ossini Racing Products' Ty Wal1M lace, who currently holds AMA Pro Racing national number 85 and who has held a national number for what seems like forever, made it pretty clear that he will be the man to beat for many years to come. Wallace topped the podium of every class he entered at the final round of the Northeast Classic Motocross Series at the Walden Playboys Motocross Club. Wallace had a perfect day in the 250cc Pro/Expert class, going 1- 1 for the overall and a nice chunk of change. Most riders would be pretty happy with that, but Wallace did better - times two. He also topped the 125cc Pro/Expert class, riding to a 2-1 score over Bromley Suzuki's Barry Carsten, who went 1-2 for runner-up. But that wasn't all, folks: Wallace also topped the Over 25 Expert podium with another 2-1 tally, over another veteran, Kurt McMillen, who carded a 1-3 for second overall. But wait, that's still not all, folks! Wallace came into the final round leading the series in the 125cc and 250cc Pro/Expert and Over 25 Expert classes and left Walden Playboys as the series' overall winner in all three classes. Wallace went home with an additional $1000, as the top prize for the overall series winner in the 125cc and 250cc Pro/Expert classes was $500 each. Wallace, who recently became a father for the second time, will surely be putting his winnings to good use. Not to leave out the other veteran, Carsten finished second overall in the series in the 125cc and 250cc Pro/Expert classes and left Walden with an additional $800 ($400 for each class). Carsten also won the Over 30 Expert class series overall. Walden Playboys club member and local favorite Mike Leavitt led the charge out of the gate in the first 125cc Pro/Expert moto, with Dave Ginolfi, Wallace, Carsten and Joseph Robertson in tow. Leavitt started lap 'two with the lead, but Carsten was moving through the pack, and he pulled up behind Leavitt, with Wallace only a bikelength behind Carsten. It was a freight train out front and anybody's race for the remaining six laps. Runner-up went to Lawrence (2-3), and Marshall (5-1) rounded out the podium. Fourthplaced Katsoules may not have made the podium, but he left Walden as the 2003 125cc B-class series overall CN winner.
