Jeff Gibson, who normally rides a Performance Factory KTM 125 SX, rode this VZ450F to the win in nightone's four-stroke main. He finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 125cc mains. the event, and Clark took the overall for his 2-1 score to Oehlhof's 1-3. Oehlhof did manage to win the heavily contested four-stroke class overall with a 4-1 to Gibson's 1-5. Demuth was third with a 2-4 score. Oehlhof earned a $250 bonus for the overall. "Last time I was here, I was real sick," Oehlhof commented. "This event keeps getting bigger, and I struggled in some of the races, but I managed to win two races, so I'll take 'em." "I've been here for all but one year since '96," Clark explained of his Lake County attendance. "The track was the best that I've ever seen it. It was a cross between a supercoss and arenacross, and this event is great for the privateers like myself to make some money. Justin Brayton impressed after recently returning from a leg injury. He was running near the front throughout the event. BRIEFLY••• Team Shogun Yamaha was in full force at LakE> County with the blue sE>mi-truck, mechanics, riders and bikes, Team leader Demuth says that he is now taking a break. "'I"m done racing for the summer after this event," he said. ,. No more Nationals or big races for me. Maybe a small fair race here or there, but I'm going on vacation and getting ready for next year's arenacross series. You·1I see me next at the U.S. Open in October." And what about the rumors of his going to supercross? ·'1 signed with Shogun for two more years." he added. "I really enjoy the people and mood of arenacross. I'm doing well there and like it. so I'm not going anywhere"· Also in attendance. and somewhat of a surprise, was Subway Honda's team of Jason Thomas and Joe Oehlhof. Thomas remarked, "I've heard about this race but have just never made it here, Ifs bigger than I thought. I was looking around the pits before practice on Wednesday and said to myself. 'Ifs like Anaheim I around here.'" For the second year in a row, Clear Channel Entertainment's Arenacross division helped out with the race and promoted its upcoming 2003-'04 series as well. Arenacross director Kyle Baker was in attendance and said, "This is a great event. and many of our riders make the trip. too. We help out with the overhead structures, starting gate. haybales and covers and a few other things in exchange for promotion of our series. Sparks is a good promoter, and I enjoy coming here. Our Arenacross guys did well here, and that was nice, too.·· eye e n e .... s
