o contest for the accolade of Star
of the Show at Intermot 2002 - it
was an historic Italian marque whose
display was by general acclaim the
hot exhibit, certainly among the
European manufacturers. Somewhat
improbably, that was Moto Guzzi,
purchased by Aprilia three years ago
and whose stand was juxtaposed to
its parent's in a self-evident message
to the marketplace, underlining the
120 million euros ($136.7 million) of
investment that Aprilia owner Ivano
Beggio has committed to pumping
into Italy's oldest extant motorcycle
marque over five years, not including
the 40 million ($45.5 million) he
spent on acquiring the company, but
including 60 million euros ($68.3 mil-

The hit of Intermot 2002, the Moto
Guzzi MGS-01 eorsa Racer is going
from concept to reality. The machine
was designed by European Moto Guzzi
specialists Ghezzi & Brian. Giuseppe
Ghezzi has since been hired as a
designer for the factory.
