Own Race: 125cc 1] @® Joaquim Rodrigues 4th (5-4) The Portuguese rider was the surprise of the day, when he made his 125cc debut a top-five ride. "' was not expecting this result," said Rodrigues. "' started riding the bike two weeks ago. In practice.' was really slow in turns. But 1was just reatly relaxed, and when the gate dropped, J was on the gas.' ~ 1] Andrew Short ®1] Josh Woods 12th (20-5) After a 20th in moto one, Short put on the best performance of his motocross career with an amazing first-tum-crash-to-fifth ride in moto two. Short took advantage of a huge pileup at the end of lap one to pass about 15 riders. Then he charged from 13th to fifth for the rest of the moto. 13th (7-26) Short moved past a big pile of riders early in the second moto. Woods was at the bottom of that pile. "I must have been run over by 10 guys," said Woods. "And my wheel was just spinning a few inches from my face. So that was pretty scary." In the first moto, Woods moved from a 15th-place start to seventh. 1] {] Robbie Reynard 6th (12-6) In his return from a wrist injury, Reynard decided to enter the 125 class. And he made an impact. Despite crashes and bad starts, Reynard charged hard all day and finished sixth overall with 12-6 scores. "I did well: I just needed to stay off the ground," said Reynard. Still, Reynard's solid day was punctuated by a late second-moto pass on series points leader Grant Langston. "It was good to be back and get some confidence." @® Ryan Mills 8th (9-9) Mills has been steadily progressing, and he marked his one-year anniversary of turning pro with a solid day. The Amsoil/Chaparral Honda rider started just outside the top lOin each moto and was able to creep up for consistent 9-9 moto scores. ~~ Broc Hepler 11th (13-11) After wrapping up his amateur career last weekend at the AMA Air Nautiques Amateur Nationals at Loretta Lynn's, Hepler made his highly anticipated pro debut at Millville. And it was a good debut, as the 16-year-old Pennsylvanian overcame poor starts and a crash to record 13- 11 scores for 11th overall. "My goal was a top-10," said Hepler, who pitted out of a box van next to the SoBe Suzuki factory rig. "I will definitely work on my starts this week." He will need to, as he started well outside of the top 20 in both motos but moved up well. Hepler also appeared quite calm all weekend despite the new surroundings. ®® Michael Brandes 18th (14-14) "I was running up front in the first moto, but I just got tired," admitted Brandes. "I think I need to start training on the East Coast. Back in California, it's hot, but without the humidity it's different." The second moto was much worse, as Brandes went down hard in a pileup right off the start and took a big hit to the head. "Something came through my goggles and knocked the lens out. It was a high-speed get off. I got it the worst, I guess." but he's defin!tely concerned about this championship." Stewart is not concerned, since destiny is out of his hands. "I just want to knock off the rest of the motos," said the .Floridian. "I had a scare this morning when I crashed in practice and hit my head pretty hard. It was up to my team to decide if I could ride today. I just pulled through and put my head down. That's the only way I'll have a shot at this championship." eN Spring Creek MX Park Millville, Minnesota Results: August 11, 2003 (Round 9 of 121 Brown (Kaw); 31. Robert Kiniry (Suz); 32.
