Judging from this ride, it may not be long before Hinkel joins his longtime friend· Iy rival Peterson in the Pro class. This race marked a break in the ongoing MX West Summer Night Series, so all con· cems of series points were dropped for this one· off affair. No one seemed to ride with any less desire, however, so it seems that series points are really just peripheral when it comes to actually being out under the lights. That said, more action will certainly unfold next week, when Carson will again hold a nonseries race before the points chase resumes for its final two rounds. ~ Q. >- OJ ~ :I: Q. PETE EMME CHILTON, WI, JULY 25 Scotty Biese and the Gravity Park crew had things rocking for the Park's biggest weekend of the year, as 238 entries came to compete in the warmwup race for the Amateur Stadiumcross Championships the following day. Friday night under the lights, warm weather, and a bunch of motocross· it doesn't get any bet· ter than this. To add to the excitement, freestyle sensations Tommy Clowers and Je"ff Tilton were set to perform the following night in a special Red Bull freestyle exhibition, right after another round of the Northern Cup Motocross Series. After arriving a little late, Alan Jonas just jumped out of his truck and aboard his bike and grabbed the Masters Over 25 holeshot. Flea Cisler made the best of Jonas' being jangled by his late arrival, passing him in the uphill whoops to move out into the lead. Cisler quickly moved out to a five-bikelength lead on his Honda thumper. Tom Nielsen got a mediocre start and put his Yamaha into third. Jonas, who is very used to winning, had to settle for second on the night, as "The MX Flea," Cisler, took the first·moto win. "I had some problems with my clutch, as I just put a new one in and had a hard time adjusting it on the fly in the moto," Jonas said of his first moto. Jonas fixed the problem before the second moto, as he led the way to the checkers and the overall win. Cisler settled for second, and second overall with a 1-2 tally. Preparing himself for Loretta Lynn's, Matt Hopkins may be too strong for the 13-24 class; he bolted out into the lead with a big holeshot. Marty Leum sneaked into second, way behind Hopkins, and Adam Hickman moved into third. Hickman took over second by the third lap, with Aaron Smith in tow. Jacob Greatens and Jesse Frassetto also got into the mix, but Frassetto had a mishap and lost some valuable time. Greatens made a pass on Smith on the plateau to move into third, and then he eventually got Hickman for second. Hopkins checked out with the win, with Greatens second and Hickman thjrd. Hopkins took the second-mota holeshot and won again, but there was some changes 80 AUGUST 20, 2003' cue I Wild Wilderness Raceway: Michael Willard, on his KTM support ride, was brilliant at round six of the Wild Wilderness Friday Night Series, making the rest of the 16-24 class say "Rats'" hands in the middle of the moto when Skaggs went down on the back side of the track. As there were few competitors in the Over 25 and Over 30 A classes, they mixed in Brian "Gonzo" Gonser with a few other classes, and he still left everyone behind. Gonzo was ridicu· lously fast on his STF-backed CRF450R. "I just wanted to thank my friends and family, especially Pappy and my girlfriend, Angel, for comjng here and cheering me on," Gonzo gushed. "I really dig this track. Tony is putting on one heck of a show here." Results 50 Oll·INJ: 1. Logan Piccirillo (Cob); 2. Tristan Stumbo (KTM): 3. Cody Penwell (KTM). 50 (4-6): I. By CHUCK BALL PINEVILLE, MO, JULY 26 As the sun began to set and the temperatures began to fall, the action on the track kept things hot at round five of the Sugar Creek Championship Series. In the first 85cc Open mota, Rainbow Suzuki's Todd Bloxham absconded with the holesbot and led the pack up the hill, followed by Kawasaki jockeys Briar Sample and Noah Boyd. On lap two, Bloxham fell, handing the lead to Sample. Bloxham quickly remounted, just ahead of Boyd, and set out after Sample. Within a lap, Bloxham had regained control (after Sample took a soil sample) and led the field home for the moto win, ahead of Boyd and Layne Pechin. In moto two, Bloxham got another good start, chased this time around by Boyd and Sample. Cody White started in fourth. On lap two, Sample passed Boyd, riding slightly smoother and with fewer little mistakes. Boyd then crashed in a corner, moving White into third. Bloxham, with great speed and consis· tency, won the second moto, as well as the overall. Sample and White finished second and third in the mota and overall, respectively. Wild Wilderness Raceway Kilbarger Kin Kwick! By RUPERT X. PEllETT LOGAN, OH, JULY 25 They're not brothers, yet they're from the same town and are related nonetheless. Levi Kilbarger and Chase Kilbarger each took wins at round six of the wild and wonderful Wild Wilderness Friday Night Series, held under the tights of the track and the bright stars of the southern Ohio skies. Levi, the son of track owner Tony Kilbarg. er, was simply spectacular in the Schoolboy division. He tore off with the win on his Yama· ha YZ250F. Jake "The Snake" Mohney ran a strong second behind Levi and attempted to gain some points in this exciting series. The 50cc (7-8) class was all about Chase Kilbarger. He stormed home with the win in that tough division, with fast young man Logan Piccirillo in second. Chris Whitcraft and Nathan Skaggs waged a long battle in the 250cc Pro class. The two Yamaha pilots were the only two contestants in the class. The victory fell into Whitcraft's e n e vv s Sugar Creek MX Park: Nick Blood (452) charges to victory in the highly competitive 250cc Novice class at round five of the seven-race Sugar Creek Championship Series in Pineville, Missouri.
