In semi action, Brian Vincent got the holeshot with Rob Pearson in second. Jaime Aguilar and Stanley battled for third. S'tanley got around Aguilar, but the third place was shortlived for the Washington rider as McCoy passed him and headed toward the front. McCoy made short work of Pearson, who got up high and fell to sixth. By lap four McCoy was in the lead. Vincent fell to second with Kyle Ragsdale in third. McCoy went on to take the win. Vincent and Ragsdale both held onto transfer positions. Pearson got by Stanley on the white flag lap, but it was too late. The second semi was halted with problems. At the drop of the green, Wood got the holeshot, but Scooter Vernon was underneath Wood and into the lead. The red flag then came out for part-time dirt tracker Cory (Right) J.R. Schnabel finished third at Houston, which was the site of his first career National win. Schabel now sits third in the F-USA series standings as well. (Below) After pulling a no-show at the rescheduled round two in New Hampshire, reigning Formula USA Champion Terry Poovey rebounded with a fine come-from-behind fifth place at Houston. both while Winsett worked on him. Ragsdale used an inside line on Vernon on the back straight to get around for] Oth. With five laps to go, Cool beth applied more pressure to Kopp, trying to pass him on the inside to retake the lead. Schnabel and Smith were in third and fourth, respectively. Poovey passed Hacker on the back straight and went to work on his teammate. Ragsdale was up to eighth with Scherb in ninth. King was up to ] Oth after using the low line on Winsett going into three. Kopp took the win by six-tenths of a second. Coolbeth finished second. Schnabel rounded out the podium on his Yamaha. Mees came home fourth, and Poovey made it up to fifth after making the pass on Smith with two West, who slid into the tuff blocks in three and four. On the restart, Vernon nabbed the holeshot and led flag to flag. Jethro Halbert was in second but was passed by Donald Mullen on lap two. Halbert fell to fourth when Richard Winsett got past. Winsett also made little work of Mullen for the second place position but was unable to make a run on the leader Vernon. Logan Meyers sneaked his way up into the final transfer after starting ninth. He passed Mullen with two laps to go and then was able to get by Winsett for the runner-up position. Vernon took the win. Meyers and Winsett took the final transfers. The Silver Cup lined up next. This is a money-only race for the riders who finished fourth through ] 2th in their respective semis. Brett Pankey shot into the lead but was overtaken by Wood. As Wood led, Aaron Creamer sneaked into second, dropping Pankey to third. Creamer took over the lead, and Pankey fell to third with Wood in second. The yellow came out for Hinds, who fell on the front straight. Creamer continued to lead with Wood a close second. Pankey had third covered. Jethro Halbert passed Shane Livingston on the back straight for fourth. A three-way battle ensued for third, among Halbert, livingston and Tim Eades. The three riders switched it up on the back straight, but Halbert always managed to come out with the lead across the line. Back up front, Wood dove underneath Creamer for the lead on the last lap. It ended up being a drag race to the checks with Wood taking the win. Pankey finished third. Eades won the battle for fourth, and Halbert finished fifth. Stanley chose to use his provisional for the year to gain access to the main event, making for a ] 9-rider main event. Coolbeth grabbed the holeshot, with Kopp and Schnabel following. Tyer was fourth, but he fell to 13th by the second lap. Mees took advantage of Tyer's fade to push toward Schnabel, who was still in third. Kopp passed Coolbeth for the lead going into turn one. Bryan Smith passed Mees on the inside of the back straight and held onto the fourth position. Mees fell to fifth. Hacker passed Poovey for sixth. Then King slid out on the fifth lap, bringing out the red flag. The start was single file this time, and Kopp led the way. Cool beth was second, and Schnabel was third. Mees tried to pass Smith using the outside groove, but it didn't work. Hacker moved up on the battle for fourth, but he couldn't get past Mees. Kopp continued to lead with Cool beth keeping him honest. Schnabel ran a distant third. Smith led the battle for fourth with Mees a steady fifth and Hacker in sixth. Poovey gained on Hacker, but the Virginia rider held him off. Further in the pack, Merle Scherb moved up to eighth and Winsett ninth. Vernon ran ] Oth, just ahead of Meyers. Kyle Ragsdale battled with] 2-placed Teague. King was already back up to ] 4th. KTM teammates Kopp and Coolbeth steadily pulled away from the pack, while Mees made his line work and was able to get around Smith and once again attack Schnabel for the third position.
