The Australian Pursuit was the highlight of Sunday, as Pro riders lined up approximately 20 feet from one another, single file. The object of the race was to pass the rider in front of you. The last one on the course, or the first to finish after 30 minutes, was awarded a cash payout collected from among the spectators and vendors. Ten minutes into the moto, aII but three riders were out of the race, leaving Kansan Tommy Hahn, Californian Richie Owens and Floridian Donnie McGourty on the course. Owens reeled in Hahn, while McGourty began to suffer bike problems. Seventeen minutes into the race, Owens caught up to Hahn and passed him on an inside line out of the first off·camber of Craig's Corners (a section of tight offcamber switchbacks prior to the fin· ish-line straightaway); this automatically handed the second· place prize of $200 to McGourty, while Owens collected a little over $800 for himself. Blake Wharton won his first 85cc (7·11) moto by grabbing the holeshot, in front of Cody Agler of Kansas. By the end of lap one, Agler fell back in the pack with a sick bike and was replaced by Terren O'Dell, 52 AUGUST 13, 2003 • c: U 50 OPEN: I. Lukas Tankersley (KTM); 2. Lane Butler (KTM); 3.
