T
he 2003 AMA/Chevy Trucks
U.S. Superbike Championship
will likely be decided in the
final rounds of the series at
Barber Motorsports Park,
and Mat Mladin will be
ready. The championship
leader left the three-day test
at the new facility with the
fastest time and a wealth of
information about how his
Yoshimura Suzuki GSXR1000 works around the 2.3mile road course. With the
exception of some teething
problems at Daytona International Speedway, the Mladin
team and its GSX-R 1000
have been the benchmark,
with little change throughout
the season. Barber would be the
first time the team had to rethink
the chassis dynamics.
"That racetrack, the motorcycle
was totally different to what we run it
Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin (661
and Aaron Yates (201 posted the
fastest times at the first test of the
all-new Barber Motorsports Park in
Alabama. Mladin was the quickest
man, with a time of one minute,
25.054 seconds on the 2.3-mile
course.
