AMAlWML Altex Computers Motocross Championship Round 3: Washougal MX Park Germany's Stelfi Laier stays perfect with Washougal win -. Steffi Laier is undefeated thus far in the WML Motocross Series, winning all six motos run. STORY AND PHOTOS BY DOUG KARCHER WASHOUGAl, WA, JULY 26-27 'lFhe Women's MX League (WML) il ran its third round of the six-race AMA/WML Altex Computers Motocross Championship Series in conjunction with the AMA Pro National Outdoor MX Series at Washougal MX Park, and once again, Germany's Steffi Laier stole the show. Even though the venue might've changed from the previous WML race, the results remained the same, as the KTM USA/UFO-Italy/MG Sportbacked rider went 1-1 to take the overall win for the third time this year, maintaining her perfect score in the series. The race took two days to complete, actually, with moto one held on Saturday and moto two on Sunday, during the National Motocross program. Things did not go without a few bumps along the way for Laier. On Saturday, after grabbing the holeshot, Laier collided with Sarah Whitmore coming out of turn one. Laier man- aged to stay upright, but Whitmore went down, and, while the German KTM rider went to work at the front while being chased by Jessica Patterson and Tania Satchwell, the young rider from Michigan, Whitmore, remounted and began her charge from the back. Laier, meanwhile, added over a second to her lead with the passing of each lap and easily took the win, (Above) Sarah Whitmore (4) has really stepped it up this year. Here, she leads Jessica Patterson (250), Jacki Hudson (5) and Canadian Jessica Foster (4091. the main at all, the young lady from Germany was, once again, in control of the lead. Meanwhile, four riders - Hampshire, Sheena Patterson, Ashley Boham and Bau - kept everyone's interest with a fierce battle for fourth. Hampshire ended up prevailing, followed by Patterson and Boham. Former WML and seven-time Women's Italian National Champion Bau, suffering from a faulty rear shock, dropped back to finish seventh. eN (Above) Patterson (2501 got the start in moto one, but Laier (110) soon took the lead and left. (Left) Whitmore had an awesome comefrom-behind ride in the first moto and backed that up with a solid second in moto two. She was the only one to keep Laier in sight. Whitmore made an impressive run up from 22nd. She eventually caught up to and finally passed Steffi Bau for fifth and then went after Tarah Gieger. But Gieger was too tough, holding on to fourth place to the finish. The second moto was run just before the start of the 125cc moto on Sunday. In front of 23,000 fans, Patterson, on her Team Green/Fox/Pro Circuit Kawasaki, took the holeshot, with Whitmore, Laier and Marisa Hampshire right behind her. By the end of lap one, AGPRacing.Com/ Yamaha/Thor-mounted Whitmore had swapped places with Patterson; both were later passed by Laier.
