Wills showed why he carries the number-one plate in the Classic 500/750cc division (as well as in Dinosaur), chasing down early leader Bernie Breece and passing him for the lead on the fifth of eight laps. Robert Litten held a solid third all race, while Connell moved up past Mark Fillebrown for fourth at race's end. The top four all were aboard tasty-looking Harley KRs. Florida's Chris Shindeldecker nailed the lead from the Sportsman 750cc start and opened up a good lead on his Yamaha. However, the Yamaha-mounted Scott was moving up through the field, and by the fifth lap he had closed the gap and begun to make a race of it. The two crossed the finish line in a near-photo finish, with the win going to Shindeldecker. The battle for third also went right to the flag, with McLendon finishing just ahead of Thomas. In the Over 60 Super Senior final, dirt-track legend Ronnie Rail had gotten his BSA around the Triumph of class champ Brown when a rider went down around the halfway point and brought out a red flag.
