Pro Honda Oils Supersport Round 9: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course just get better at the next one. Aaron [Yates] got around me in a good spot, and I got him back on the brakes later on. He just chased me down. Jason [Pridmore] was doing an awesome job up there, but he had a little off-track excursion with some lappers. That brought him back to us and gave me motivation again, but it just didn't work out. Jay [Pridmore] was on the pace again, and he kind of dropped us. , always think' have a shot at it even if , don't, but Jason was kind of out there today. We'll try again at the next one in Virginia. It was warm out there today. It was a marathon. My left hand was falling asleep, and I was getting that weird flushed sensation in your face, and you don't realize how much water you're actually losing out there. The changes I made [to the bike] were really minute, like two clicks on the shock. It wasn't really enough to register, but' thought it was better." eN was just wanting to get that gap on fourth place again. And then, of course, Kurtis had another problem again. He doesn't deserve it. He rode two great races." With Roberts' demise, Bostrom was still left fighting with Yates, though the latter would have a big problem with lappers on the 24th lap. That would give Bostrom some breathing room, and it was all he needed to take the final rostrum spot - barely! Alth~ugh he was pleased to be on the podium, Bostrom wasn't thrilled about how he'd arrived there. "I don't know that' worked through the field; it was people dropping out," Bostrom said. "It kind of worked out in our favor. That's not the way I want to finish third, obviously. I would like to have been up there racing with Mat [Mladin] and Kurtis [Roberts], who were getting away and did a great job both days. Alabama, September 20-21 The Honda rider gets his first Supersport win of the year me was going to probably shoot up the inside of me if I let off," Zemke said '" just had to go for it." Zemke was only able to enjoy his win for about six hours before the AMA penalized him for a rules infraction. Because the team didn't run a television camera during the Supersport race, they were obliged to add a three-pound weight ballast, which they didn't do, according to AMA road race manager Ron Barrick. Zemke was fined $2000 and docked five points (See Briefly). Though he's not in the championship hunt, Zemke closed in on third place. With two races to go, Hacking leads Buckmaster by 30 points, 285 to 255. Spies is third at 202, four up on Zemke. "The championship's in my mind every day," Hacking said. "Not only when I sleep, go to sleep, wake up, come here to the racetrack. It's something that everybody in the hunt for the championship, they're thinking about it." Buckmaster was one of the four leaders, taking it from Hacking on lap five before giving it back on lap seven. '" made a move on Jake [Zemke] down the back straightaway that actually worked, but he had the inside line, so he had the right of way," Buckmaster said of his plot to steal the win. '" actually set him up in his draft, but' knew I would've run out of track right there in the kink on the back straightaway. There was STORY AND PHOTOS BY HENNY RAY ABRAMS LEXINGTON, OH, JULY 27 rion Honda's Jake Zemke took the focus off the battle for the championship by winning his first Pro Honda Oils Supers port race of the year, edging out title contenders Jamie Hacking and Damon Buckmaster of the Yamaha team in the first race of a hot, humid Sunday afternoon at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Zemke was the fourth leader when he moved to the front on the ninth of 16 laps, passing Yamaha's Hacking with Buckmaster close in and Yoshimura Suzuki's Ben Spies up with the lead pack. Zemke would later say there was little comfort, with his team showing plus zero the whole time. The checkered flag looming, it looked like the race would go right to the line until the leaders caught a pack of lapped riders a few turns from the end. All had to take different lines to survive, with Zemke pulling through the best and racing to the line with 0.597 seconds in hand. In quick order came Hacking, Buckmaster and Spies, the top four covered by 0.770 seconds. "When t-hose guys came by me, I wasn't worried about it - I was just riding my own race and trying to get ed second and third place," Buckmaster said, "but we had a really good race, and I was really pleased that everyone rode really well and through," he said.
