of the last corner, where I almost lost it, but I put my head down and began. to reel Tray in." As the first wave of the Heavyweight Twins blasted off the line, Kraft was getting a jump to get his SV running. As Batey reached the first corner in the lead, Kraft charged after the field. In the Expert portion of this race, Champion held second, as the big-bore Ducatis and Hondas contested third. Fred Bittner had the Novice lead on his Fast By Ferracci/Michelin Ducati. but he was on full rains. and they would fail him on this nearly dry track. After six laps. Batey stretched his lead on the "new" Chris Jungetuned Suzuki SV-1000. This was the first race for this 2003 SV. Riding the wheel off his Kart 2 kart.com/BRG Racing.com 650 SV. Kraft finally moved into the Novice lead. Four Michigan riders contested third in the Expert race, with Paul Vitale taking it at the checkered flag on his Ticraft/BCM Ducati; Chris Knight took fourth on the T&W Electronics/2 Cent Racing Ducati. with Dave Dekker in fifth on the Performance Motorsports/Pirelli Honda. "I hate to make a comparison between these two bikes," Batey said of the new SV-1 000 and the TL-1 000. "You know how I feel about the TL; I've had great results with the TL. This is the first time I got to ride the SV. Chris Junge did a little work on this SV. And we just added a pipe. He got the engine where it runs good. but it is no match for my TL. But I have to say that the SV really handles well. You just throw your elbow into the corner. and this bike really just bites." David Weber took the lead off the line in the first wave of the 600cc Superbike race, with Nicky Wimbauer in second on the Info Tech/Valter Moto R6. Lynn led the second wave. with Robinson and Adam Sylvester right on his rear wheel. On lap five. Colorado's Wimbauer powered by Weber to take the lead. Yamahamounted Van Scoik ran third. There was a battle for fourth among Young. Spector and Bennett. A few clicks back. local hero Sylvester gained the lead on his Pirelli/Pit Bull Yamaha R6 as he outpaced Lynn and Robinson. At the checkered flag, two riders gained their first National wins - Wimbauer in the Expert class, and Sylvester in the Novice class. "I tried to put together some good laps and gain a good lead," Wimbauer said. "but Weber stayed right there. During the last lap. he got by me over the hump and again in the hairpin. but I drafted by to win my first National. I'm really excited to win a WERA National!" "It was a awesome race," Sylvester said of winning his first National. "Lynn's Suzuki was fast. but the R6 pulled him easily; it's all about that Yamaha horsepower." In its continuing commitment to support road racing in America and worldwide, Suzuki Motors added another venue last year to highlight the GSXR-750. This is the second year for the "Suzuki Worldwide GSXR Cup Final." The race is scheduled for October 19 at Magny-Cours, France. He mounted a set of Pirelli blue-stripe slicks on his Vesrah Suzuki GSXR750 and took the lead at the flip of the green flag. Carpenter ran second, with Bennett third. On the second lap, Batey lowered the track record with a 1: 19: 11 and built a six-second lead on the field. Eric Spector was on the move on the Guardian Alarm/Vortex Suzuki, as he replaced Carpenter for third. A couple of laps later, Spector grabbed second from Yamahamounted Bennett. At that point, Batey put it on cruise control with 1:20 laps to take the victory in the final race of the day. "The bike just felt fantastic," Batey said afterward. "We should have set the bike up a little stiffer, because I was grinding parts everywhere. The tires were great for the first four laps; they could have done 1:20s all day. but they were great in the beginning.
