efforts and donations and services and products, to noted event organizer Gene Lipps. "We hardiy had to pay for anything. The few things we did need. a few people stepped up, and we were able to take care of it. And Kevin Windham got to hold little Ashton Young - the whole reason for this event." Gravity Alley Motocross Track Breaux Bridge. Louisiana Results: June 28, 2003 Gravity Alley Motocross Track: Kevin Windham helped out at the Randy Young Benefit Race in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, not least by amusing the fans. A silent auction was one of the main attractions. Participants could shop along rows of tables and choose from hundreds of donat· ed items. Some of the most popular items included signed jerseys recently worn by such Pro riders as Chad Reed, Stephane Roncada, Ezra Lusk, Grant Langston and Mike Brown, Even the gear that James Stewart wore when he charged from last to first at the previous weekend's Budds Creek AMA Motocross race was signed and available for auction; it still had the dirt on it! The high point of the day was when Pro rider Kevin Windham showed up to deliver personally his signed racing gear for auction. When asked during an interview how his new baby was doing. he paused for a moment. "It's funny how my outlook on life has changed: he said, "When you have a child fighting for survival. it helps you put things in perspective. Some things are more important than racing. to Afterward, Windham signed autographs and took pictures with his fans until it was time for his exhibition ride. He donned his gear and took about 10 hot laps around the track, In the first 85cc Novice moto, local riders Chad Dubroc and Dustin Domingue were hav· ing a good battle until Domingue got crossed over a rut in a turn and went down. By the time he remounted, Dubroc was gone. D.J. Cortez recovered from early problems to finish second, with 10-year-old Lance Vincent finishing in third on his 65. In the second moto. with the light rain starting to soak the track, riders started slip· ping down left and right, Domingue charged from last to fifth, while Dubroc won again, in front of Michael Wagner and Cortez, One of the biggest classes of the day was the Senior Band C contest. Patrick Meche from Loranger posted a 1- I tally in front of the pack. Wesley Wiggins was one of the riders who came out of retirement to support the cause. and he finished second in the B class on a borrowed Yamaha. In the Open Money class, 36-year-old Buster Graham busted the holeshot. shaking off the remaining effects of a previous injury (a broken collarbone), Champion Cycle Center teammates Blake Kennedy and Martin Campbell settled into second and third, Local talent Jamie Ellis was the only rider who could hang with Kennedy for a few laps. Even in the second moto, with the treacherous conditions due to the rain, Ellis continued to grab handfuls of throttle on the Yamaha YZ450F as he continued to clear every jump and blast out of every turn. However, it was not enough to match Kennedy's smooth, low-air, ridingdown-inside-the-bike style, Again the Sky Pilot from Covington, Louisiana, posted a 1-] score and kept alive his local winning streak, intact since he switched to KTM. Other impressive performances came from Duscon's Campbell, who kept his KTM 125 in front of the 250cc and I 25cc Open riders. and from Jon Murry Barr, who came all the way from Glen Allen, Mississippi, to win the overall in three Mini classes. Jeremy Domingue from New iberia established his track authority in 60 JULY 30,2003' cue I e the 65cc (9·1 I) and Open 50cc Pit-Bike classes, Dane Landry Jr, from Grand Isle, Louisiana, displayed his confidence on wet tracks as he led the second 65cc (9-11) moto after the rain. Baton Rouge's Brandon Brignac. like Kennedy and Barr, had just come from posting double-moto victories the night before at Gonzalez; they showed it was no fiuke by doing it again on Sunday, The camaraderie and generosity of the motocross community was impressive. "We had over a hundred people saying. 'What do you need? What do you need?' and just pouring their hearts out with all their 50 OIL·INJ: I. Brock Ronsonel: 2. Ched Peltison: 3. Adem Smith; 4. Utah Sportsmen's Riders Association Round 15: Hot Springs Raceway Hot Times at Hot Springs By DAVE ROUNSEVELLE OGDEN, UT, JUNE 28 Sunny skies and hot temperatures made for a great . but hot - day of racing at Hot Springs Raceway, with competitors from Utah, Wyoming and Idaho competing for the day's top honors. Track workers prepared the track beautifuily and did a good job of keeping the dust down while not making too many slick spots. With temperatures in the 90s, watering was mandatory - for the track and for racers and race fans as well. Gray Davenport from nearby Lehi, Utah, was the day's biggest winner, walking away with overall wins in the I 25cc Pro, 250cc Pro and Open Pro classes. Kipp Posey has shown he is one of the few who can run with Davenport so far this season, Posey ripped a holeshot in the first 250cc Pro moto, while Davenport was having trouble getting by Chad Wailwork. By the time Davenport was in second, Posey had built up quite a iead; Davenport whittled away at it. but he was unable to catch the smooth Posey, The second moto was a flip-flop of the first: Davenport grabbed the hoieshot, and Posey had to play catch·up, With clear track in front of him, Davenport simply pulled away from Posey and took the second-moto win and the overall for the day, Wallwork rode consistentiy and took third with a 3-4 score, over Josh Borges (8-3), who placed fourth. Shae Bettencourt secured a first-moto win and placed second in the second moto to take the overall in the Over 25 Intermediate class. Mike Rowan showed he has the speed to run with Bettencourt by taking the second-moto win and second overall for the day with a 6·1 tally. Jake Palmer was consistent, going 4-3 for third overall. Cole Nelson used his home-track advan· tage to take the 125cc Junior class. He placed n e vv s second in the first moto but came up with a dominating win in the second moto. Tysin Schanguard won the first moto but was unable to get through traffic and placed sixth in the second moto for second overall. Brandon Sorenson took third overall with a 5-3 taily for the day. Cody Biack used two holes hots to his advantage as he swept both motos in the 250cc Junior class. Once he cleared the pack, Brandon Edwards was able to run lap times close to Black's. but he was unable to catch the fleeing leader. Jarad Lecheberg got midpack starts but worked his way through the pack like a surgeon, carving his way up to third in both motos for third overall. Hayden Roberts looked smooth and fast as he easily took both mota wins in the 85cc (7 -11) class. Second spot was not so clear, cut, as Kyle Price took second in the first moto but got hung up in traffic and could only make it to sixth in the second moto, taking fourth overail. Blake Savage rode smoothly and took second with 3-3 finishes. Blair Vetre hung right behind Savage and took the final podium spot with a 4-4 score. In the Over 30 Junior class, Randy Covington took the first moto and hung on for third in the second moto to outscore second·placed Mike Harrelson's 2·4 score. Chris Dorst took the finai podium spot in the class with a 6-2 taily, Mike Spencer grabbed the early lead in the surprisingly large and competitive Over 40 field, Spencer's lead was short-lived, though, as Bryan Schritter passed Spencer on the first series of doubies, Schritter puiled away and cruised to the moto win, and Spencer took second. In the second moto, Schritter puiled the holeshot, with Kirk Williamson on his tail. Williamson was able get by Schritter in the S comers and hold him off for the win in the second moto, Schritter (1·2) took the overall. Spencer (2-4) was second. and Williamson (6-1) was third. Brandon Leith showed he approved of the enlarged 50 track as he took both motos in convincing fashion in the 50cc (4-6) class, Tucker Swenson (3-3) ran second overall, Nicholas Winkie and Brodie Larsen swapped scores, with Winkie going 2-5 and Larsen going 5·2, but Larsen's second-place second· moto finish garnered third overall.
