The AMA has announced that AMA Sports, which manages Amateur and Pro-Am AMA competition, will hold its inaugural AMA Sports Awards Banquet on Friday evening, November 21, at the Las Vegas Hilton, one of the famed city's top convention facilities. The 2003 AMA Sports Awards Banquet will honor champions from AMA Sports' extensive Amateur and Pro-Am programs, as well as numerous special award recipients. And with AMA Pro Racing's annual Awards Banquet scheduled for the following evening, Las Vegas will play host to the largest-ever gathering of motorcycle-racing champions. Speed Channel personality Greg White and veteran race announcer Tim Coller will serve as masters-of-ceremonies at the 2003 AMA Sports Awards Banquet. AMA Sports conducts the world's largest and most diverse slate of motorcycle competition, awarding AMA National Championships in arenacross, cross country, dirt track, enduro. hare and hound, hare scrambles, hillclimb. ice racing, motocross, observed trials. road racing, and speedway. Also under development is a supermoto championship program. In addition to recognizing AMA National Champions in those 13 disciplines, the 2003 AMA Sports Awards Banquet will honor the AMA Sports Athlete of the Year, the AMA Sports Youth Athlete of the Year, the AMA Sports Female Athlete of the Year, the AMA Sports Veteran/Senior (30+) Athlete of the Year, and the AMA Sportsman of the Year. AMA Sports will recognize the AMA Horizon Award winners for dirt track, motocross and road racing, plus AMA Sports Riders of the Year in crosscountry, hillclimb, ice racing, hillclimb, observed trials, speedway and supermoto. Special AMA Sports Awards of Excellence will be presented to Broadcast Journalist of the Year. Print Journalist of the Year, Photojournalist of the Year, Motocross Organizer of the Year, Track Racing Organizer of the Year, and Off-Road Organizer of the Year. The 2003 AMA Sports Awards Banquet is open to the public and will include a hosted cocktail reception, dinner and the ceremonies.
