MAMMOTH LAKES, CA, JUN. 21-29
raditionally, many riders make the
trek up Mammoth Mountain weeks
prior to the race to acclimate themselves with the High Sierras and the
racetrack. but this year the U.S. Forest
Service had locked the gates to the
Mammoth Motocross track awaiting an
environmental assessment from the
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.
With the oncoming race, the Forest Service chose to allow the race
for 2003 to continue due to the large
number of riders already committed
to the event.
Mammoth
Motocross
made
changes this year in order to accommodate all the racers and fans. The
track hosted 1720 entries with riders
coming from allover the United
States - some from as far as New
York or Florida. A vacation for many,
racers, fans and families come to
Mammoth for the cool summer days

here and one of the greatest race
tracks in the world; I'm excited," he
said. "I'm having a blast riding my
Honda, which is new to me. I don't
see how you can have much more
fun than this."
During practice, one morning was
so cool that the racers and fans were
treated to snow. Though it melted
quickly, the novelty of snow in June
was still exciting to many.
"I can't wait to see McGrath,"
