place finish, well ahead of a lonely Robert Scally, who finished third and was the first twins rider to cross the line. Earlier, Scally was involved in a fantastic fight for the exhibition-only Open Twins class victory. The selfsponsored 59-year-old from Mountain View, California, jumped to the lead right from the get-go but soon found himself hotly pursued by Placerville rider John Proto on a Yamaha and Triumph 650-mounted Steve Hall. Hall faded back to finish a solid third while Proto and Scally ran nose to tail, with Proto feinting up around the outer edge of the groove in turns one and two as he attempted to make an outside pass about three laps from the finish. Scally was able to hold off Proto's advances and came away with the win. Nicky Moore, 16, of Riverbank, California, was the class of the field in the American' Honda Top Gun 450 division, though local racer Mike Perillo stole the show. Moore led the eight-lap final from start to finish, with the Placerville pair of Danny Giguere and Perillo running second and third for the duration. After the race, Perillo electrified a clearly partisan crowd by rolling his Honda CRF450R's front wheel against the wall, placing his rear wheel on the groove and then pulling off a tire-torturing burnout that sent a huge cloud of smoke wafting into the air. Afterward, Perillo took to the microphone and asked the crowd if anyone would be willing to help him pay for a motor rebuild.
