He only dropped one foot on the remaining sections, collecting 11 cleans in a row to take the lead at the end of first loop, with six marks. Lampkin scored six, too, but he also got one delay point and thus was the runnerup. Behind them were Raga (11.), then Jarvis (14) and Freixa (15). As usual, the second lap was run very fast, and Fujinami made some little mistakes here and there, carding some dabs. Though the sections appeared quite difficult during the Friday inspection, the riders found the good iines to negotiate the exaggerated obstacles. Takahisa Fujinami yielded the event crown because he lost his concentration in the second part of both days. He came into Andorra tied with Lampkin for the championship lead, D 54 JULY 9, 2003· 0: U 0: I e but at the- end he found himself five points adrift! The fight for third place between Graham Jarvis and Marc Freixa continues, and when the Brit seemed to gain a little a~va[ltage on Saturday, the Spaniard put on a superb second lap and clinched the win while Jarvis could only net the fifth position. Outsiders Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany seemed to have changed their attitudes now that the fervor of their suspension is over. The Gas Gas-backed Raga is still motivated BRIEFLY••• The start of the Andorra GP was in the center of Santa Julia'. a little town in the principality of Andorra in the heart of the Pyrenees chain. As in the past three years. there were limited spectators in the sections in Andorra. There were no buses available, and the narrow mountain roads were full of cars parked near the groups of sections. The Andorra GP marked the first European appearance for 19-year-old Isao Shibuya. After some problems getting acclimatized on the first day (his minder spoke French). he finished in seventh place on Sunday. Ladies World Champion, Spanish rider Laia Sanzo took part in the Junior class. and in both days rode very close to his potential, while the Beta-mounted Cabestany also rode to his usual standard. The Junior class was won by Polish rider Tadeusz Blazusiak on both days, but on Saturday the A9ht among the first three riders was very hot. He won for the time against Frenchman Jerome Bethune. Third place went to British rider Shaun Morris. On Sunday, Morris finished second. DAY DNE Martin Lampkin, known as the "loud voice" that "drives" his son Doug Lampkin on the sec· tions, crashed on the road at the beginning of the second lap on Saturday.
