Wilson Craig got off to a promising start by finishing second on Saturday. He slipped back a little bit on Sunday with a third. 27 on lap three to take a seven-point win over Craig, who dropped 30 on his final circuit for a total of 94. Aaron's 87 -point total made round seven the highest-scoring event of the year. Bell got back on track with a 34-point final lap and 102 total points, giving him third for the day. Florin turned in 29 points in an effort to catch Chaves for fourth but was four-and-a-half points shy, as Chaves earned the fourth spot with Florin relegated to fifth. David Chaves weekend. Chris Florin was consistent in Pennsylvania. He finished fourth both days. SUNDAY Chaves had the hot hand early in round eight and was the only rider to clean section one, doing so on his first attempt. Sunday was a duplicate of Saturday's event, with the majority of the sections claiming threes or fives. One of the most ridable sections of the day was section number 15, a section that had also been used on Saturday but proved to be impossible. A few modifications made it much easier for Sunday's event. It was an artificial section set in the pit area for the spectators to watch and consisted of an old Country Squire station wagon placed next to the concrete foundation of an abandoned pump house. The riders exited from the section by jumping from a ramp to the top of a storage tank set on top of the foundation, a jump that was at least 12 feet high. Bell was the first of the top riders to attempt it and spun the rear tire on the approach to the exit. He pulled up before the jump, realizing he wouldn't make it. Craig was next but didn't have the momentum and crashed hard on the jump. Chaves was one of the first to make it through, posting a clean ride. After one lap, Chaves led with 27 points, followed by Aaron, just one point back. Florin was on a roll and posted a 32 for third position, with Bell (34) and Craig (36) rounding out the top five. Craig was back in the hunt again on lap two and was one of the few to get through the slippery number-five hillclimb section where Aaron posted three fives. Chaves continued his momentum on lap two, but that was as far as it went. "I thought today was my day," said a disappointed Chaves after the event. "I finished with good score on the first two laps. But on the third lap, I don't know. The sections were a little more slippery, and I got too tired. I had 30 points in fives on the last lap." A 42-point final lap dropped Chaves to fifth overall for the day. Aaron had a steady day, making a few mistakes here and there, but the event was difficult enough to allow for that and still recover. He bettered his final two laps, posting a 22 and a 14 for a total of 64, giving him an 18point win over Bell. "I just kept improving on my rides," said Aaron, explaining his strategy for the difficult sections. "I would have a five in a certain section, and then I would whittle it down to a three or a two on the next lap. There were a couple of sections in the middle where I was real strong. About halfway through the day, I started to get a rhythm going, and I started to feel better." wen:t~4~_~5~0~v:e~r~th~e~-';'::a.;;~~~~~:=~::::;~~~!!~~~ Bell, who was also consistently better with each lap, dropped 29 on lap two and only 19 on lap three for second. Third was an ever-improving Craig, who went 19-30 on his final two laps. Florin rebounded from a mediocre second lap (37) to claim fourth with a 20-point final lap. Chaves rounded out the top five with a total of 96. eN Central Pennsylvania Farrandsville, Pennsylvania Results: June 21-22, 2003 [Rounds 7/8 of 133 Saturday C'SH1P: 1. Geoff Aaron (87): 2.
