• Dutch Sport Park Motocross Smith Goes $Extreme! By lARRY WITMER BLOOMINGDALE. MI, JUNE 7-8 Brad Smith took the win in the $Extreme Money moto. Smith did it with guts and determination, following the roost of Derek Rose throughout the early part of the 20-minute moto. The gate was jammed for the start of the $Extreme moto. Rose took the holeshol and had John Kidd and Grant Moreland in close formation. Randy Woodring, David Reed and Josh Radi all ended up on the ground in the second comer and would have to playa hard game of catch-up. Smith got a horrible start, but he had moved up to third by the completion of the opening lap. By the third lap, Rose had been on cruise control, but he knew that pace would not win this big-money event. Smith. charging hard, caught up to Rose. Kidd. Moreland and Mitch Dervin rounded out the top five. However, Woodring was on the charge, looking a little goofy with his HJC Visor bent up. By the completion of the fifth lap, Rose still led, with Smith hounding every move the Honda rider made. T.J. Auten went down in the supercross corner while running seventh. Moreland also took a dive, ending his top-five run. Woodring was on the gas and was now up to fourth. By the last lap. it looked as though Smith had been through a war, while Rose was as clean as he'd been at the start. Smith had his kidney belt half-undone, had thrown his Scott goggles away and was covered in heavy roost, but he kept up his charge. Finally, at the conclusion of the ninth lap. Smith saw an opening through the six·pack rockers, and he overpowered Rose for the lead. Smith held the small advantage to the checkers for the win, closely followed by Rose. Woodring put on a charge and took third. "I had a great start," Woodring comment· ed, "but I tried to cut under Rose for the holeshot, and the front end washed out. I picked it up and charged the entire mota." Rose seemed shell·shocked after coming up short. "I saw Smith get by me in the rockers with a tighter line," Rose recounted, "and there wasn't anything I could do. I wanted to stay in my fast lines. I got beside Smith on the last lap down the Dutch Freeway, but he held on good. Much thanks to my Grandpa. Moto XXX, Growe's, O'Neal, Scott USA, FMF. and HJC Helmets for the support!" Smith was still cleaning out his eyes with Pure Fact water while being interviewed. "I had a bad start and didn't want Rose to get away," said the speedy KTM rider, "so I rode real hard the first four laps. I kept close to him and waited for a mistake. I knew where I was going to pass him in the six·pack. but once I got around him, my forearms pumped up, and I rode tight. Luckily, I held on with my Nevin's KTM/Lowe/Universal/EVS/Scott USA/Pro Circuit KTM. This feels greatl" Results Saturday AUTO SHAFT (4·6) I. Cody Price (Cob); 2. Vineyard's Hill Wright Uncorks Vineyard Trials Win By TERRY BOllARD PARK HILLS, MO, JUNE 8 Drew Wright won the Expert class at the trials event in Park Hills, Missouri. This was his sec· ond win in a row over his longtime rival Rick Agans. Only 11 points separated the two, but it was easy to see that Agans was pretty bumed that some young punk had beat him. Stay tuned to see if he continues his win streak, The upper class struggled in section four all day. It was very tight and technical, and no cleans were recorded. In the Advanced class, Terry Bullard pulled off a victory. James Labonte won the fight over reigning champion "Hollywood" for second.
