Northeast Amateur TT Nationals Round 2: Path Valley Speedway Greenland, Kidwell Lead Double Winners BY lEN BREECH SPRING RUN, PA, MAY 25 With Austin Greenland and Tyler Kidwell leading the way, several riders left the Roxy's Cycle of Fayetteville-sponsored Northeast Amateur TT Nationals at Path Valley Speed· way with double wins. Greenland put his Greenland Masonry Honda in front of the 85cc DTX class and fought Toby Stay for a few laps to win the 85cc (12-15) contest. Kidwell took both the 65cc DTX and Modified finals. Several other riders also scored doubles: Kenneth Venarchick won the 50cc Oil-Injected and 50cc Junior classes, Brandon Robinson won the 100cc and 125cc Modified classes, Rich Meliinger easiiy took the Over 30 win and scored a surprise 4S0cc Modified win. and Dillon Cava easily won the Sportsman and 600cc A finals. While this was an Amateur National Quaiifier, this is Path Valley's fifth annual attempt to run a doubleheader short track/TT over the Memorial Day Weekend, quite often with soggy results. In fact, it has usually rained on at least one of the dates. The IT course cuts into the infield in the middle of the second tum, then parallels turns one and two, with a jump opposite the start/finish line. It enters the regular track about halfway down the back straight. Despite running over three-fourths of the short track, in most of the races, the first rider over the jump held on for the win. Greenland took the 85cc DTX lead from Hayden Avery, Patrick Jacobsen and Trey Kreider over the jump. Kreider drifted back after the opening lap, while Avery and Jacobsen battled for second, allowing Greenland to put some distance on them. With a little more than one lap left, Avery fell coming out of the infield, bringing out the red flag, and the race was called complete. In the 85cc (12-15) class, Stay surprised many by leading Greenland over the jump. After foliowing Stay for two laps, Greenland slipped under him as they entered the infield on the third lap. Once by. Greenland pulled away for an easy win. As usual, Kidwell was quickest off the line in the 65cc DTX final, followed over the jump by Bailey Spence, Kyle Schlimme and Jake Quick. While the others were banging on each other for second, Kidweli pulied away. Quick took over third coming out of the infield on the third lap, but he missed a shift on the following lap and dropped back. As they started the final lap, Schlimme pulled beside Spence and had the better drive out of the infield to take second. in the 65cc Modified contest, Kidwell again easily took the win. while Spence and Schlimme again stayed close, with Spence holding him off this time. Proving the old adage "location is every· thing," Brad Phillips was in a good location in the 250cc DTX final. He grabbed the lead going into the infield, while several riders stacked up behind him. Coming off the jump, Jonathan Jordan, Glen Coldsmith, Chris Miller and Gary Conklin sorted themselves out. chasing the leader. Miller was on the move, and he took second at the start of the second lap and then motored past Jordan in the regu· lar third tum on the fourth lap for second. Jordan stayed very close, and on the final lap they collided, and Miller fell in the switchback after the jump. Jordan stayed upright and didn't lose anything, as everyone had to check up to avoid the mess. John Lewis jumped into the 250cc Modified lead, over Conklin, Phillips and Michael Radley. On iap two, Radley fell just before the jump, while Miller started moving through the field. He was up to fourth and pressuring Phillips for third in the late laps when he aimost feli after the jump while trying to get under Phillips. He recovered, but any chance 76 JUNE 25, 2003' cue I e h-=-S Path Valley Speedway Spring Run, Pennsylvania Results: May 25, 2003 (Round 21 50 OIL·lNJ: 1. Kenneth Venarchlck (KTM): 2. Florida Motocross Series Round 7: Motocross World Stocker Puts 'em on the Shelf By CRAIG JOHNSON Path Valley Speedway: Brad Phillips (6) leads Jonathan Jordan (29), Glen Coldsmith (73) and the rest of the 250cc DTX pack at the second round of the Northeast Amateur TT Nationals, in Spring Run, Pennsylvania. of catching Phillips was gone. Over 30 winner Mellinger grabbed the 450cc Modified lead from Conklin, Cory Texter, and heat winner Lewis. Ken Godwin collided with Lewis in the infield switchback. This let the front-runners put some distance on the 250cc Modified winner. While Lewis quickly got by Texter, the margin stayed about the same from the third lap on. Evan Baer was first over the jump in the 85cc Modified final, with Patrick Jacobsen, John Long and Kidwell following. Jeremy Hig· gins started moving through the back part of the field, passing Kidwell for fourth by the fifth lap. On the fourth lap, Baer missed a shift entering the infield, letting Jacobsen slip past for the lead. Lance Stauffer easily topped the Over 40 class, Jonathan Jordan took the 600cc Modified win, and Spence outdistanced the rest of the SOcc Seniors. BITHLO, FL, MAY 25 Andrew Stocker, who lives in nearby Lake· land, Florida, struck hard and furious at round seven of the fifth annual Florida Motocross Series. Stocker took no prisoners at Motocross World. winning all four motos entered. The KTM pilot put the 65cc (7-9) and 65cc Open (7-J I) wins on his trophy shelf. The day started out a little soupy, as a rainstorm had dampened the track the night before. The Motocross World crew went to work, and by halfway through the first motos the track began to shape up well. There was a new twist: The track was run backward from the previous round. Stocker won both Open motos hands down. Not even the older riders from the 65cc ( I 0- I I) class were a match for this upcoming speedster. Cody Smith followed Stocker to the checkers in the first moto, as Bradley Bonds held off Taylor F'tanklin for third. Dennis Trefelner rounded out the top five. Stocker left the others to scrap for second in mota two. Franklin and Bonds had it out, with Franklin taking runner· up. Darin Walker moved up to fourth. with Hunter Harbin finishing a distant fifth. The 65cc (7-9) and (10-1 1) classes ran combined, with the older riders taking off first. Carl Glisan headed the first group, with Alex Spade. Kyle Combee, Anthony Zaffino and Taylor Ditzian following. Stocker led the next wave, with Bonds lind Smith trying to keep up. Combee moved into second on the track briefly before falling in the back whoops. handing second back to Spade. Bonds was the next to fall, and Smith went by for second in the 7·9 class. Everyone seemed to be having a hard time in the damp back section. The next rider to fall was the leader, Glisan, but he got back up right, staying in front of Spade. Stocker made his' way through the older riders and was third on the track and looking for more. With a couple of laps to go, Spade fell, and Stocker went by. Stocker caught Glisan but ran out of time. Ditzian moved up to finish third on the track, as Spade recovered for fourth, holding off a whole freight train of riders. The order behind Spade was Zaffino, Smith, Franklin and George Warren. The second mota featured a fight for the holeshot between Glisan and Zaffino. Glisan held on for the lead, and Zaffino dropped back to fifth as Combee, Warren and Spade ducked under for second through fourth. Stocker left the 7-9 class behind at the start, with at least a three-bikeiength lead going into the first tum. Everyone's eyes were on Stocker. wondering how far up he would finish in this moto. Within a couple of laps, Stocker was third on the track and trying to chase down Glisan and Combee. The two front· runners pulled out a few seconds, and Stocker couldn't make up the distance. Giisan won the 65cc (10-11) portion, with Combee second. Stocker won the 65cc (7-9) portion. Spade passed Warren for fourth on the track, but another youngster, Bonds, came from the second wave to pass
