AMA Grand National Cross Country Series Round B: Virginia Motorsports Park Even the rain couldn't cool off ChucK Woodford STORY BY JASON WEIGANDT PHOTOS BY RAY GUNDY PETERSBORG,VA,JONE15 t was a day to celebrate fatherhood but it turned out to be one dictated by Mother Nature. Great weather and sunny skies greeted everyone for round eight of the AMA Grand Na-tional Cross Country Series, held at the sprawling Virginia Motorsports Park. But just minutes before the green flag waved, the skies opened up on the inaugural Patriot GNCC race. And thus the series enjoyed yet another mud race and another big win by Kawasaki's streaking mud specialist Chuck Woodford. Over the last few weeks, Woodford has won two straight GNCCs and the treacherous Moose Run, proving, once again, that when he's hot, no one can cool him down. "Things are really coming together for me," the Kawasaki/Pro Circuit/ O'Neal/Michelin-backed Woodford said. "I knew I could do it; I did this last year. But my concentration this year was to smooth out and be consistent and go for a championship. But I got hurt before the season started, so there's only one thing left to do - win more races." KTM's National Enduro Champion Mike Lafferty battled hard with Woodford before taking another podium finish with second place.
