In sportsman action, Doug Fisher scored a double win, taking the title in Schnitz Top Gas and MTC Super Compo Doug "Superdad" Peterson nabbed the win in RC Components Super Gas, and Joe Meija won Super Eliminator. Six-time Gateway Track champ Bob Lohr won the Dyantek Pro ET Series, and Eddie Krawiec brought his Yamaha R1 600 SuperSport machine to the win in Street ET. CN &ateway International Raceway East St. Louis, Missouri Results: May 31-June 1. Z003 (Round 4 of 91 qualifier put Janzen fifth, behind polesitting Mimmo Marciano's 6.81. Janzen cruised by the early rounds to set up a semifinal match with reigning champ John Sachs on the Hayabusa owned and tuned by Holt's mentor, Joe Franco. Janzen and Holt got the best of the championship team, turning back Sachs with a 6.89 to 7.02 win. On the other side of the ladder, Steve Drake was running eerily consistent 6.88s on the McKinney Motorsports Suzuki, looking for his first win since New York in 1996. Drake got a holeshot win in the semis to end the two race win streak of Charlie Farrar on the C&W Kawasaki, 6.88 to Farrar's quicker 6.82. Janzen and Drake left the line together in the final with Janzen just stretching it out for the win, 6.85 to Drake's 6.88. A thin Accel Pro Stock field saw champ Todd Doege take the pole with a 7.] 5 on the Ward Performance machine, only to have the bike break in the first round of eliminations. With the field wide open, Keith Dennis made the most of it, bringing Joe Marasco's MSP Suzuki to its first win with a final-round victory over Kerry Yates, 7.26 to 8.00 The story in Suzuki Formula Superbike hasn't changed much, with Team Kawasaki rider Chip Ellis maintaining his unbeaten streak on his ZX12R. Ellis scored the pole at 8.03/165 followed by Brian Schultz on the Del's Performance Yoyodyne "Team Bring It!" Hayabusa at 8.22/165. The pair met in the final where Schultz had a personal best of 8.16/164 but was no match for Ellis, who took the win with a monster run on 7.94/168. The battle of the factory turbos continued in the Streetbike Shootout series, with Team Kawasaki and Team Honda facing off in another final. Defending champ Kent Stotz took the pole on the Stotz Street Extreme/Velocity Racing Honda Blackbird, just edging out Kawasaki's Rickey Gadson 7.891 to 7.893 followed closely by former champ Duck Lauer on the Flo Tech GSXR at 7.907. As he has all season, Gadson made the final to face a Honda, but while it was Stotz!Velocity teammate Barry Henson for the first two events, for the S1. Louis event final Gadson faced Stotz himself. Stotz got the holeshot in the final, but Gadson was just too strong. Crew chief Co by Adams had Gadson in the 7. 70s 'all day and kept the bike tuned in the final with Gadson running a 7.72 to Stotz 8.04. Stotz recorded top speed of the meet in the final at 190 mph. In the Zero Gravity 600 SuperSport class, hard-working independent rider Pat Leonard scored his first-ever win, coming out of the second qualifying position on the Color Rite ZX-6R. Team Green rider Chip Hunter continued to be the hot bike qualifying his ZX-6R on the pole at 9.94 seconds but broke a motor in the semifinals against Leonard. On the other side of the ladder, K&N Motorsports rider Keith Thompson took out the R1 of Virginia winner Eddie Krawiec before getting a semifinal bye. The final was all Leonard. The New Jersey rider took the holes hot and ran his best lap of the event, a 9.89 at ] 36 mph, to turn back Thompson, who ran a game 9.92/136. In the Yamaha Hot Rod Cruiser class, Patrick Racing rider and current champ Mark Underwood absolutely bombed the record on his Warrior with a pair of 9.44s at 139 TOP FUEL: 1.
