,.-----------------,0: W ~ > 0: 0: :5 iii 5 s:: Frozen Ocean Moto-X Park: Paul Carpenter topped the 250cc Expert class at the sixth round of WNYMA action in Auburn, New York. two, as every rider fought tooth. fang and claw for holeshot honors. Stratton stung first, clearing the holeshot solo. with Schmidt, Chris Lenzi, Jamie Robinson and Leavitt in tow. It was a whole different cast of cartoon-fast characters in front this time. Stratton was leading, but he soon became the hunted again. while Carpenter returned to the role of hunter. Carpenter cut his way through the pack of riders and began stalking Stratton in a two-bike breakaway. Stratton stayed on the gas and in the lead, even while mowing down a few dandelions. Carpenter had been patiently waiting for the chance to light the afterbumers on his big red White Brothers' Honda. and when he did, -Pauly" tripled past a doubling Stratton and took the lead. Now it was Carpenter who couldn't shake Stratton off his fender. even as the two riders laid down the fastest lap times of the day, at two minutes and two seconds. Stratton would rally back time and again, looking inside and outside, only to have Carpenter nail the door shut. Those jelly-loose spots were dryas a bone now, and the jam-tight comers were now grooves wide enough to dance in. Yet there was still room to pick other Jines, including some through the tall dandelions. Dieter again rallied his way back up to battle bar to bar with Schmidt for a while before he took over the third spot again. Carpenter took the win and, with 1-1 finishes, first overall. The scramble for who would earn second on back was wild. Showing that age and treachery will win out over youth and adrenalin. Stratton (4-2) picked up second overall, over Dieter's consistent 3-3 efforts. Leavitt's 4-2 performances left him in third overall. Holland (6-5) snatched fifth overall, but Schmidt (6-5) could have easily taken those honors, as the dynamic duo dueled it out to the end.
