AMP Spring Series Round 4: Hollister Hills SVRA Ingalls Cards Three Aces By JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS HOWSTER, CA, MAY 4 Templeton resident Austin Ingalls showed why his number plate reads "111" as he garnered overall wins in three classes on the day at round four of the AMP Spring Series, presented by Swift Auto World, Yamaha of Modesto and DH Cycles of Modesto. The Yamaha pilot had a busy, six-moto day, taking on all comers in the 125cc Novice, Schoolboy and 80cc Intermediate classes. and carding solid scores in each for the wins. The first moto of the day featured the 125cc Novices. and Joseph Romano set the pace early on, while Josh Rogers, Ingalls and Bob Kirk gave chase. Romano quickly opened up a little gap, while Ingalls, who was right on Rogers' rear fender, searched for a line to make a pass. However, the pressure was enough: Rogers bobbled, and Ingalls capitalized on it. Ingalls then set his sights on Romano, while Kirk moved up to challenge Rogers. By the halfway point, Ingalls was all over Romano. Once again, Ingalls' presence was all it took, as Romano went down on the fourth lap. At the checkers, Ingalls cruised in for the win. Kirk made a slick inside move on Rogers in the last turn to snag the second spot. Romano rebounded for the fourth spot, followed by Johnny Kerslake. Moto two was all Ingalls', as he shot out front and checked out on the field. Kerslake and Kirk went at it for the second spot. Romano suffered a bad start but clawed his way up to fourth after several laps. With Ingalls all alone up front, the race for second was a good one, as the two riders went at it bar to bar for the entire moto. Kerslake hung tough as Kirk kept the pressure on all the way to the checkers, and Kerslake's 5-2 effort was good enough for third overall, while Kirk (2-3) claimed second overall on the day. Romano checked in with a 4-4 tally for fourth, and Jesse Holt Jr. rounded out the top five with a 6-6 score. Schoolboy action featured several of the same players, and once again Ingalls showed raw determination in his quest for the class win. In moto one, he got off to a midpack start, while Kirk and Kerslake occupied the top two spots. However, by the third lap. Ingalls had moved through the field and taken over the second spot, with Kerslake in sight up front. But Kerslake turned it up and held him off for the win_ Kirk, Holt and Eric Emer· son rounded out the top five. In moto two, Ingalls got off to a better start. but Kirk had the early lead and appeared to be headed for the win, keeping Ingalls and the rest of the field a safe distance behind him. In fact, as the white flag waved, it was still Kirk in front, but Ingalls was right there, and he made the pass just a few turns later. Ingalls went on to take the win and the overall via his 2-1 effort, while Kerslake (1-3) and Kirk (3-2) rounded out the top three. Ingalls then moved down to the Minis and took on the 80cc Intermediates - and he once again found success. Despite a fall in moto one, his 2- 1 tally sealed the deal on the day, over Justin Enos (1-2) and Brad Kelly (3-3). A nearly full gate of 125cc Beginners watched Matthew Williams take a pair of wireto-wire victories for the class win. The King City resident clicked off flawless laps and was never challenged en route to both moto wins. Behind him, Joey Lasiter's 2-3 score did the trick for the second spot. Mike Newman (Suz). run South Central AMAlVDTRA Championships IT Scrambles Waco Eagles Motorcycle Clubgrounds Flying with the Eagles By JENNIFER W,LSON WACO, TX, MAY 3 Competitors from 15 different states made their way to the Waco Eagles Motorcycle Clubgrounds in Waco, Texas, to test their skills in the IT Scrambles. Jake Lewis traveled from Princeton, Kentucky, and started his night out right when he took first place in the AMA 50cc Stock Senior (7-8) main event. Lewis took first coming off the starting line and held the lead throughout. Jamie Wood from Denison, Texas, placed second, and Travis Sands from Pflugerville, Texas, cros~ed the line in third place. Lewis made his love for racing evident as he gained the lead yet again and held It for the win in the 65cc Modified{DTX Combined (7 -11) class. Dakota Jones from Sherman, Texas, started the race in third place, but he hit the gas and passed Amery, Wisconsin's Kevin Walter on the third lap to place second. Walter crossed the finish line in third. Several young people showed a great deal of talent in the 85cc Modified (7- 11) and DTX (9-13) main events. Andy Wood from Fallbrook, Califomia, placed first In both races. Daniel Larocca from Lake Charles, Louisiana, came in second in both races. Nick Page came off the starting line of the DTX class in second but fell back to fifth on the second lap. Page fought to regain his spot but had to settle for third place. Page also placed third in the 85cc Modified contest. Joel Lacer of Chapman, Kansas, took the holeshot and raced his way to first place in the 505cc Pro Sport class. Lacer had to work hard for his win, as Scott Beckley of Bridgeport, Texas, riding a Vor, was hot on his heels for the entire race. Jim Wood Jr. from Redlands, California. fought his way from a sixth-place start to finish in third place. Terry Poovey from Euless, Texas, took the holeshot in the Pro Expert 505cc contest. Poovey was unable to hold that lead, as Bryan Smith zoomed past him on the third lap. Smith finished the race in first place. Poovey came in second, and Jason Tyer from Irving, Texas, followed them home in third place. Poovey and Smith were on their new factory Hondas. The riders in the VDTRA Over 60 Super Seniors event rode a race that showcased their years of experience. Richard Woods from Round Rock, Texas, stole the lead from William Burr on the second lap, while Danny Gerard from Spring, Texas, bullied his way from fourth into third at the finish. Burr, a resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, placed second. The 600cc Pro-class main was another exciting race. While Eric Bland took the lead and held it to place first, the riders behind him were fighting for position. Frank Hardman went from third to second on the fourth lap, but it was a spot he wasn't destined to keep. Kurt Boehlke came up from fifth place to pass Hardman and kept right on going to place second in the class. Hardman finished third. Hardman didn't come all the way to Waco from Casper, Wyoming, to settle for third place. He got back on his bike and sped past the rest of the riders to claim first place in the Open Pro Twin-class main. Steven Bland fought his way from fifth to finish second, and William Snyder from Manhattan, Kansas, went home with the third-place trophy. Waco Eagles Motorcycle Clubgrounds Waco.
