Beaulac held the spot until the last lap when Rich King motored by. The fourth heat was rather ho-hum as Johnny Murphree got by Steve Beattie and pulled a big lead. Beattie was safely in second until the last lap when his Rotax stopped on the front straight. Brett Landes, Tim Eades, Mike Hacker and Jake Johnson had thought they were fighting over semi starting spots, when suddenly it was a ticket to the main on the line. It was the Audiovox/Quakerstate backed Landes in the main. Shawn Baer backed up his fifth-fastest qualifying time by blasting into the lead of heat five. Paul Lynch worked his way to the rookie's rear wheel and applied pressure until there was finally a crack on the last lap. Lynch would take the win, but both were headed to the main. The last heat was another dandy as Chris Hart, Greg Tysor, Jay Springsteen and Kenny Coolbeth battled away. It settled down to a race between the Continental Tire-backed Tysor and Coolbeth. With two laps to go Coolbeth dove inside of Tysor going into turn one and came away with the win. The four semis would put the last four riders into the main. The first was a great race between Willie McCoy and Shaun Russell. Russell made a charge around the outside off tum four on the last lap for the win. The second semi saw Raun Wood pull away from Charlie Italia for the win. Kevin Varnes got the holeshot in semi three, but Tim Eades slipped into the lead, until the halfway point when Varnes retook the spot. Jay Springsteen charged up his fans when he took control of the last semi and appeared to be on his way to the main. It was not to be when Springsteen's Rotax blew going down the back straight.
