he AMA's Progressive Insurance
U.S. Flat Track Championship
came to the high banked KC Raceway for round five of the 18 race
series; unfortunately so did the rain
that has plagued the series all year.
Heavy rains on Friday night and Saturday morning turned the Saturday
night race into a Sunday day race.
Under clear cool skies, 66 riders

(Above) Chris Carr claimed his second
win of the season and the 59th of his
career with a solid performance at the
Chillicothe Short Track at KC
Raceway. Carr took over the lead just
a few laps into the race and was never
challenged from there.
(Right) Kevin Atherton (23) jumped
into the early lead, with fellow
Yamaha rider J.R. Schnabel (partially
hidden) second, followed by Kenny
Coolbeth (31), Johnny Murphree (20),
Paul Lynch (19) and the rest.
