said. "We have some little work to do, but in general I think everything is working the way needed. Third on the podium was the 2002 surprise, young Italian Ivan Lazzarini. The factory Husaberg rider was sick at the first round and couldn't perform as desired, but in Greece he was the only rider to match Seel's lap times. Unfortunately, he never took advantage of his speed and appeared to need a slightly better setup. In race one, despite starting from the pole, he was just seventh into the first turn. He finished third, and he later suffered from another poor jump off the front row in race two, in which he finished fifth. Lazzarini showed his speed was still there when he finished second behind Seel in SuperPole, but again he appeared to lack the killer instinct off the start of the SuperFinal. He had to work hard to pass his way toward the front, eventually getting right behind Stephane Blot and pressuring the Frenchman into mistakes. Lazzarini now occupies fourth in the standings, ahead of Blot, who ended up fourth in the main event in Greece but didn't score top points in the preliminary finals. There was disappointment for French superstar Boris Chambon, the guy who replaced '02 series dominator Thierry Van Den Bosh on the factory KTM. Chambon looked fast but not enough to win, as his fourth and third places in the first two races might suggest. In the main event, he had the misfortune of meeting up with Blot over a jump. In what looked like a deliberate move, Blot cut over on Cham bon's line, and Chambon hit the ground pretty hard. He was able to continue, although 13th in the SuperFinal isn't exactly what he was looking for. The others in the top finishing positions included William Rubio, with fifth place, and Italian former motocrosser Lorenzo Mariani, with an excellent sixth (and so far best ever) place on the new TM machine. Another Italian, Massimo Beltrami, was seventh on his factory Husqvarna, right ahead of Vertemati's specialist, Gerald Delepine, who was eighth. eN SP of Sreece Heraklion, Sreece Results: May 10-11, 2003 IRound 2 of 14J r----------------------------------------------o Guyot (Hus); 7.
