Oklahoma State Championship Series Round 1: Field of Dreams MX Park Schrik Trick By CONNIE JOHNSON OKMULGEE, OK, MAY 4 Round seven of the Oklahoma State Championship Series was held on May 4 at Field of Dreams MX Park outside of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. While storms fired up all around the state, the moto gods smiled down on FOD and maintained a pocket of nice weather for the races. Ben Schrik stormed his way around the track to win two of the classes he had entered that day. Schrik put his Honda out in front right off the gate in moto one of the 250cc Intermedi· ate class. Robbie Robertson gave him a run for his money, but he could never get his KTM around Schrik. Brad Rodgers, aboard a Yamaha, followed in third for two laps until Dustin Jones put his Honda in front of him. Rodgers didn't just sit back and accept that, though. Running bar to bar for half of the last lap, Rodgers finally got back around Jones to take third. Cash Maitlen held fifth place on his YZ until he got into a bar· to-bar battle of his own with Brent Presnell, until Presnell managed to get the edge and make the pass stick, putting his Honda into the fifth-place position. Moto two had the same battles going on. Schrik and Robertson came off the gate together and came around the first turn still neck and neck. Schrik then pulled ahead and Field of Dreams MX Park: Ben Schrik won the 250cc Intermediate class and moved closer in points to the series class leader at round seven of the Oklahoma State Championship Series in Okmulgee. led Robertson to the checkers. After another battle for third, Jones crossed the checkers in front of Rodgers, and Maitlen finished fifth, in front of Presnell. Robertson also raced the Schoolboy class and dominated both motos from start gate to finish line. Garrett Teasley rode his Suzuki to a second-place finish in moto one, while Trae Norton worked really hard to keep his Suzuki from being passed by Yamaha rider Tyler Reid, to no avail. Reid got a knobby in front as they crossed the finish line. Rounding out the top five was Kawasaki jockey Vincent Myers. Norton had a better second moto; after a back-and-forth battle with Teasley. he came out on top to finish second, behind Robertson. Teasley barely held off Reid to take third. and Myers again came in fifth. The I 25cc Experts didn't see a lot of close action. Johnny Marley kept his Yamaha in front for both motos, with another Yamaha pilot. Robbie Smith. a not-so-distant second. Honda rider Mike Coday and Jerod Rhodes finished third and fourth, respectively, in both motos. The final round will be held Memorial Day Weekend at Ponca City· one more chance to move up in the standings. Good luck to all. Loretta Lynn's Area Qualifier Bremen Race Parte Boni, Osborne, Saylor Sail to Double Wins By FAT B,LLY BREMEN, GA, MAY 9-11 Bremen Raceway was the site of the South· east Loretta Lynn's Qualifier. The racing was fast. and the competition was the best of the year. Seven inches of rain challenged the track crew, but they had the track perfect for practice on Friday, and the heavy equipment was kept handy in case of needed touch· ups. Some 122 riders from 17 states and four rid· ers from Bermuda took advantage of the track time to better their skills on a new track. One of the largest classes was the 51 cc (7-8) Stock class, with 35 riders signed up and on the gate. KTM rider Austin Bearden was the one to catch, as he took two moto wins. Jace Owen, also a KTM pilot, was on the second podium step. Cobra rider Drew Fields came back with a strong second·moto finish and kept the KTMs from a sweep of the top three finishers. The 51 cc (4-6) Shaft Stock event put 19 riders into the first tum at once. KTM-mounted Donny Brown finished second both times out, earning the overall win. Yamaha·mounted Justin Dobbins took second overall after win· ning the first moto and winding up third in the second outing. Yamaha rider Parker Faircloth put together third overall after not giving up and keeping focused on the job at hand. The 50s were fast, and so were the parents helping them on the full track. The 65cc (7-9) Stock class was 37 strong, making the first turn a crowded place, Mason Jones took charge of the first moto on his KTM and managed to get the overall, despite trouble in the second stanza. Chad Under· wood, also a KTM rider, won the second moto, but a fifth-place first-moto finish held him back to second overall. KTM rider Mikey Morello rode steadily to third overall, making for an orange·dominated podium. Jonathan Foskey helped the KTM crowd dominate the 65cc (10-1 I) Stock class as well. Kart Johnson and Sam Landry both put out great rides, finishing second and third. respectively. Yamaha rider Cameron Smith got the job cue. e done in the 85cc (7-11) event, ahead of Suzuki jockey Brian Devillo. Forrest Lane put his Suzuki in third with a super effort in the second moto. Zach Osborne put his KTM out in front of the 35 other riders to win both 85cc (12-13) motos on his way to a two-class domination. Suzuki-mounted Michael Picone was second, and Georgia rider Tyler Horne kept them honest with a strong ride on his Yamaha. Matt Boni was the man in the 125cc B class after dominating the 125cc (12-15) race. Cale Wallace from California put his KTM in second spot with a super effort. Suzuki man Rob Wooten finished third after edging out Georgia's Jase Lewis. The ] 25cc C riders were a strong group, with 38 at the gate. Yamaha rider Rusty Schoonover ended up first overall with top points. Stephen Winters maintained second overall on his Honda. while Yamaha rider Trent Cannon recovered from trouble in the first moto to make an awesome comeback and win the second one for third overall. Yamaha rider Jacob Saylor was the class of the field in the 125cc A division. Dash Lyle of RHS Racing charged hard but couldn't reel in Saylor. John Melton, another Yamaha man, was in third. Saylor brought out his big four-stroke Yamaha in the 250cc A class for his second class domination. Lyle's CR25D was a better match, but he couldn't better Saylor on this day. Jordan Peeples' big Yamaha was third, trying to keep the leaders in sight. This race was the best of the day. with the A-class riders showing everyone the way to go. It's hard to tell which was harder to find, a parking place or a spot on the gate. All the classes were hotly contested and fairly run. Good times were had by all.
