(Above) Ricky Cannichael rode a sman
race to win his 89th career AMA
National event at Hangtown, going 2-1
for the overall. He hasn't had a "2" in
his moto score in the 250cc class
outdoors since Washougal in 2001.
SACRAMENTO, CA, MAY 18
icky Carmichael raced to his 89th
career AMA National victory,
tying the record held by Jeremy
McGrath, at the 35th running of the
Hangtown Motocross Classic. This
time, however, he didn't do it in his
usual dominant fashion, as his motowin streak was stopped at an even 30
in the 250cc class, starting back at
the Millville, Minnesota, MX National
in 2001.
The man who stopped his win
streak actually book-ends it now, as
Kevin Windham is both the last man
to beat Carmichael (at Washougal in
2001) and the first to beat him again.
It raises the question, if Carmichael is
Superman, could the K in K-Dub
stand for Kryptonite?
"I've heard a lot of people say
that's kind of what I am to Rick, but I
feel great: Windham said. "I'm glad
to be back, and my bike's working
great. I'm just glad to be the next guy
to beat Ricky. He had such an amazing streak. Who'd have ever thought
he could've won that many that long?
And people ask if I'm ready to start a
streak of my own, but that's one
tough competitor, and I'm just thankful to take it one race at a time and
