In moto one, LaMas M tus set a blistering place from the drop of the gate. Nobody could match the speed of the orange thumper. McAlister, Kuest, Thomas and Crater slugged it out for some great plaSM ticMrubbin' racing, with McAlister and Kuest getting second and third. LaMastus had trouble from the start in moto two and was way in the back. McAlister had a chance to show his stuff without having to eat four-stroke roost. Kuest, Thomas and Crater stayed close. LaMastus moved up to fifth by the end for third overall. Second went to Kuest, and McAlister got the overall win. Sam DeAtley. Cole Meyer, Christopher Johnson, Chris Howell, Tevin Tapia, Weston Potter, Shiri HowelJ, Travis Denham and Beau Jess were the top 10 Supermini riders. DeAtley got the holeshot in mota one and pulled out a comfortable lead. Johnson, Montana Meyer, Howell and Tapia bunched together, sometimes riding fiveMwide. Johnson pulled a slight lead over Meyer in moto one. DeAtley was out in front quickly in mota two. This time, Cole got ahead of Johnson, Howell and Tapia, but not without a fight. Cole fended off a last-minute challenge from Johnson to place second in moto two and second overall. DeAtley got the win, and Johnson snared the last podium spot. "Sick Nick" Van Sickel earned this round's "WorstMto-First" Award by placing 21st in mota one and eighth in moto two. Trent Jones, Blake Torok and Cole Scott went one-two-three in both motes in the 60cc Junior class. The three riders quickly put some distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. Tyler Van Zandt, Tyler Jorgensen, Hunter Evanson, Noah Baile, Docy Evanson and Cameron Jungers all had top10 finishes. Yaj· Tsheng Moua outpaced the rest of the class in the first 60cc Beginners moto. Moua left the gate like a missile and never looked back. Taylor Glidewell and Chase Slayton battled back and forth for position, with Glidewell finishing second. Moua was quick again as the second mota's gate dropped but ate a whoop on lap two and had difficulty getting the orange bike going again. R.J. Boehnke had a mIdpack start but moved up fast, picking off riders like they were sitting ducks. Jerry Beaver took first, Boehnke was next, and Devin Callahan placed third. Skagit Powersports' Andrew and Karen Denham were on hand for rider support. Track conditions reqUired just the right tire selection, and Andrew was happy to oblige riders looking to get better hookup. Andrew was leadIng the Over 30 Beginner class when he tangled with another rider and went down and got hit. Tony Boughten and Jayden Mineo put on a great show in the Unlimited Intermediate class. Their orange bikes were constantly side by side, in the corners, in the air, through the whoops. It looked like these two were joIned at 70 MAY 21. 2003' cue I e the hip. These guys can lay it flat and tum on a dime. Boughten was faster, but not by much. Jake Cartwright was third, followed by Craig Bergemeier and Eric Greene. Extreme Motorsports Park Airway Heights. The tight, 1.2-mile, II-turn grand prix track is not the course most suited to his big Yamaha. Page started from the third row in the huge class. After two laps, he took the lead, but he was challenged all the way. Three riders - Joe Pomeroy, on an RZ350 Yamaha; Jamie Miller, also on an Rlj and Jim Johnson, on a 600cc Yamaha - would take tums grabbing second, with each showing Page a wheel in one of the tight tums, but on every lap the big Yamaha would stretch it legs on the back straightaway and pull out enough distance to hold them off. The smaller. more nimble machines hounded Page the entire race, with Miller's Pit Bull M sponsored RZ pulling away from the pack to give the FZ its biggest challenge. As the two were approaching the white flag, Miller used a backmarker to dive inside in tum 11, but he couldn't make it stick, as Page still pulled away down the front straight. Page buckled down on the last lap and took the win by 20 lengths. Miller settled for second. Pomeroy held on for third on his Integrity Tool Yamaha. "This bike is a handful at this track," said a very tired Page afterward. "I didn't think I could hold those guys off for 10 laps, but the horsepower got me through." Sharing the race with the Vintage Five guys was the Vintage Three class. Tim Joyce took the runaway victory on his D5D CyclesfTeknic Leathers 750cc Triumph, over the Mike Rich Motorsports Moto Guzzi of Charles Cole and then Troy McAfee, on the Touring Sport BMW. Joyce continued his winning ways by topping the Vintage Four class, his second win of the day. Following Joyce were Terry Scoggin, on the Scoggin Fabrication 750cc Triumph, and Eric Mercer, on the Allsport Cycles SRX600 Yamaha. The Vintage Two win went to Steve Staser, riding the WKR/Bore Tech 350cc Honda. John Rickard, on the R5 350cc Ya.maha, took second, and David Rutherford handled third on his Ted Hubbard-prepared BSA 500. Pomeroy took the victory in Formula TwoStroke after a fierce battle with Quick Bikes RZ350 Yamaha jockey Scott McCain. Mark Williams rode his H-1 Kawasaki home third. As is becoming a habit for him this year. Dick Gruhn, the Quick Bikes boss, snagged victories in both Formula RD and Formula 500. Gruhn is undefeated in the RD class, with five wins, and he's four for five in the Formula 500 class. Mississippi's Charlie McEwan fought hard in both these classes to take come-from-behind second-place finishes. Robert Macaulay took home third in the two races on his Vintage Specialists 400cc Yamaha. .~ Current champion Buff,Harsh won the Vintage One contest on the Todd Henning Honda, over Staser and Nathan McManus, on the X6 Suzuki. Doug Bowie had his hands full with McCain in both the 250cc and 350cc GP races but pulled out both victories on his BCM Motorsports Ducati. McCain, this time on the Pro Porting 250cc Bultaco, took second in both runs. Charles Dildy, on his D&D Cycles 250cc BSA, had third covered_ On Sunday, William Mayfield took his Baxley Trailer Company FZR1000 Yamaha to the win in Vintage Six, over the Deals Gap Resort GSX-R1100 of Dale Burroughs and Ray Hickman's Suzuki of Morristown 750cc Suzuki. In Vintage Seven Middleweight action, David Skiles maneuvered his Yamaha 250 around the 600s of Bryan Nelson and Roger Shelton for the win. Burroughs and Mayfield swapped positions from the Vintage Six event in Vintage Seven Heavyweight as Burroughs recorded the win and Mayfield placed second. Bob Henderson was third on his Yamaha 750.
