swag, err. .. gifts at the end of the day.
There was also a holeshot contest,
where magazine editors rode an RCreplica CR250 (but the engine was
stock) and tried be.sting a time laid
down by Carmichael himself on the
machine. Motocross Action magazine's Tim Olsen came the closest.
Cycle World's Jimmy Lewis and
Cycle News' Kit Palmer tied for second. The top three riders won a set of
Dunlop Radial Rover truck tires. But
perhaps the best part of the day was
a catered lunch hosted by In-N-Out
Burgers.
When everyone wasn't macking
down a Double-Double or being
quizzed or pretending to be RC on the
start line, the media was doing what it
came out to do - tryout the "RRs."
Our bikes were first fitted with the traditional D756s, and after a while on
the track on those, the RRs were
mounted up, and it didn't take a professional test rider to tell the difference.
On the RRs, you find yourself
trusting the bike a little more in
speedy corners after a while, and
eventually we noticed that we were
getting better drives up Mount St.
Helens (oh yeah, they let us ride the
whole National track, too). The tires
really, truly do make a difference.
So if you've done all you can with
your bike and you need just that little
extra to maybe make the difference
at your biggest races, you just might
want to give the new Dunlop
D756RRs a spin - just try not to get
too addicted to the traction. Your wallet may not appreciate the tires as
much as you do, as often as you'd
have to replace them, and they're not
going to be nearly as readily available
as the standard D756s.
