"The Amsoil/Chaparral Honda team will
be Travis Preston in the 250cc class but he's injured for the initial part of the
series - then Mike laRocco on a works
CR250 - he's healthy, he's riding, and
he's testing as we speak," said team
manager JC Waterhouse. "Then in the
125cc class it will be Byrne on a twostroke, obviously since there isn't a
four-stroke available for the series,
Gosselaar and Mills. So basically it'll be
a five-man deal, and then on a side
note, on a separate team - the Factory
Connection/Honda/No Fear team - will
be Kevin Windham on a works 450,
and he's healthy and ready to go, too.
The initial diagnosis for Preston is that
he had a mild tear in his MCl, but he
got a second opinion, and it looks like
it's a little worse, so he's going to have
surgery on Tuesday [May 6J. I don't
really know how long it'll be, but I'd say
Nothing's changing here except that
Craig Anderson will be returning on his
usual YZ250F for Glen Helen. Everyone
else on the team - Brock Sellards, Ivan
Tedesco and Josh Hansen - are all
healthy to start the outdoor series.

"Our 250cc guys will be lusk and Reynard," says Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's
Tony Gardea. "lusk just started riding
at the beginning of last week - just
before the weekend of Salt lake City.
His left wrist is still pretty sore, but he
said that he's definitely riding Glen
Helen. He's coming back to California
this week, and he'll be testing with our
team, and he hopes his wrist will continue to get stronger as he goes into the
season. Reynard's been riding our bikes
for a while, and he's getting bikes and
parts from Kawasaki, and it's an outdoor-only deal that starts from Glen
Helen."
On a bit of a somber note, though,
heavy 125cc title favmite and defending champ James Stewart Jr. suffered a
broken right clavicle and a concussion
at Las Vegas and is expected to miss at
ieast the first couple of Nationals (read

"!Jeff] Gibson and [Tyler) Evans weren't
top lOin points - you get top lOin
points, you ride outdoors. Neither one
of them did that so I let them go," said
team manager Mike Craig. "Bess, Bentley and Lamson are all ready for Glen
Helen, and I hired my mechanic from
'93, Jeff Emig's brother Bryan Emig, to
be Bess' mechanic."
They'll be running Factory Suzuki
suspension.
Jeff Gibson lined up a deal to ride a
DFW/Performance Factory KTM 125
SX outdoors, whereas Evans' plans still
seem to be up in the air.
