through the pack and made a charge at Tedesco late in the race. Byrne rode well all night and was one of the fastest riders in the whoops. "It was a good night for me," Byrne said. "I didn't really have any expectations coming into this weekend. I haven't raced Supercross since Atlanta nearly 10 weeks ago, and I've only ridden the [Supercross J practice track once. I've been riding motocross, getting ready for that. I was really happy tonight. I stayed out of trouble and got better as the night went on. "I had a good race with Ivan [Tedesco] late in the race: Byrne continued. "He started tripling up over the back, and he started making some time on me, and I'd catch him back in the whoops. I nearly got back on him on the last lap on the last corner. We had a good race. It was good; him and I were both injured this year, and we're both glad to be one-two for the East Coast guys." Byrne went on to explain why he was so fast in the whoops. "I really focused on the whoops," Byrne said. "I'm a tall guy, like my teammate Travis Preston - I like the whoops. My bike handled really well, and I knew that was a spot where I knew I could make time and make a pass." eN 2003 Meet Your Favorite Riders Sam Boyd Stadium las Vegas, Nevada Results: May 3, 2003 125 HEAT 1 (6 laps, 1·9 transfer): 1.
