laps to claim fourth with a total of 39, while Florin rounded out the top five with 37. eN Wilson Craig erqoyecl his best National finish of his career when he took second on Saturday. mance and his own first-lap score with two single prods. Chaves, Florin and Peters were locked into a three-way battle over third position with each rider showing 28 points after two loops. A single mistake in section two - a nasty fall on the exit wall - was the only blemish on Aaron's third-lap card, which sported 14 cleans and one five. His nine-point total was easily enough to give him his 46th career National win. Bell stalled his engine in one section and added four single dabs and a two in another for 11 third-lap points and a 28-point total to claim second. Chaves turned up the heat with a five-point final lap to take third place, while Florin and Peters handed in identical eight-point rides to finish deadlocked at 36. Florin got the fourth-place position with 28 tiebreaking cleans compared to Peters' 26. Wilson Craig finished in sixth, followed by Beta USA's Andy Johnson, Colorado's Keith Wineland, Travis Fox, on a Sherco, and Will Duggan of B.C. in 10th. ROUND TWO Aaron started round two with a rather unlucky ride in the opening section of the day when he kicked his rear wheel up onto a rock that had a course ribbon running under it and was given a five for the ride, which he otherwise completed without putting a foot to the ground. Other than the strange marking, the section was rather easy, and the rest of the contingent passed through with cleans. "I didn't start off very good because right off the bat I ended up with a five," Aaron said. "Then on the second lap I screwed up again in section one. I was trying not to do any- National Trials Temecula, California Results: April 25-26, 2003 (Round 1-21 thing weird and ended up getting two points in the first section. So I had seven points in that section which wasn't a hard Champ section." Aaron went on to drop two more points to finish the first lap with seven. Bell looked steady and led the way with a score of four, while Craig was turning in the ride of his life and sat in third place with eight. Chaves followed with 11, while Florin dropped 14. Section nine was probably the toughest section of the day. It was a long and rocky uphill that was both technical and tricky. It started in the dirt and. went up into a double step then made a slight right-hand turn. Next, the riders had to tip-toe a narrow line over six boulders in a row. If a rider lost momentum over the series of rocks, he couldn't make it out over the final one, which was the biggest of the group. Aaron and Craig gained ground here when most of the others struggled. Aaron took a one on the first lap when he slowed too much and needed a push to get out the exit. He would return to clean it twice before the day was through. Craig also cleaned it once. Over the final two laps, Aaron carded four mOTe points - two per lap - to take the win. Craig was one point behind on lap two with a three and followed that with a six on the final lap to grab second overall. Bell dropped off the pace on lap two with a 10-point circuit and turned in one point better on the final lap for third overall at 23 points. Chaves rode three fairly consistent Friday c-SHIP, I.
