seven-time AMA Grand National
Cross Country Series A TV Champion
is finally hitting his stride on two
wheels. The early-season points
leader in the GNCC Series has had
plenty of speed and stamina this
year, and by overcoming a first-turn
crash to come all the way back and
win the biggest race of the year, the
Yamaha Loretta Lynn's GNCC, he's
. proven that he's now the man to beat
on a bike, just like he used to be on a
quad.
"I always want to win, but sometimes you want to win some events
more than others," said the Am-Pro

Mike Lafferty, on the Big
Gun/Moose Racing/Michelinbacked KTM 450, wasn't
about to give up either, and
he gave Hawk the stiffest
challenge of anyone during
his charge through the field.
The two riders battled hard
on the final lap and ended up
(Abovel Jimmy Jarrett (161
and Steve Hatch (41 vie for
the holeshot at the start of
the Loretta Lynn's GNCC in
Tennessee.
(Rightl Barry Hawk Jr. (61 and
Mike Lafferty (71 had a lastlap shootout for the win.
Hawk prevailed, but not by
much.
