Upcoming Round: 125cc EasVWest Shootout - Las Vegas, Nevada, May 3 Own Race: 125cc Shane Bess 5th Bess was stoked. "It was good, man," said ECC Suzuki's youngster. "Top-three start and right away I was a little tense, but I was like, I've got nothing to lose so I need to do this, so I just kept my head focused on the track, and I was right on Short, and he didn't get away from me at all." ~ 1] Andrew Short 4th Short was noticeably happy with his fimsh. "Third in points was my goal tomght, and all I had to do was beat Walker, and that was his goal, too," the MotoworldRacing.com Suzuki rider said. "He was just going to go for it, and I treated it like a normal race, and I can't say that I rode my own race - I actually got a little tight, and I was thinking about it all mght. It obviously showed in my rjding - I wasn't riding very good. " 1] ®® Jacob Martin 22nd ·"1 dislocated my knee on like, the eighth lap of the main," said the wincing Star Racing Oklahoman. "Somebody fell in front of me in the rhythm section, and I clipped them and kind of went off at an angle, stuck my foot down and twisted it. Jt went back into place, but they said I probably tore my ACL and my meniscus, so... Ah, it should be all right for next week." @® Josh Hansen 6th Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy Racing's second-generation star matched his best perfonnance. "I've been working hard, I just kind of got into kind of a first-tum scuffle with Mertens," Hansen said. "We started dead last, for sure. We hit bars pretty big coming out of the first tum, and I didn't go all the way down, and I made a good charge up toward the front and got a solid sixth. I caught Bess right there at the end, but it was kind of late to pass him." 71 f§j 71 Kevin Johnson 8th "I fmished on the lead lap: the Star Racing YZ250F pilot said. "Stewart was pretty close at the end, but I wasn't going to get lapped. I did not want to get lapped. I got a really good start . like fifth or sixth or something - and then on the first lap before one of the rhythm sections, a guy jumped into me and knocked me into neutral, and then I had to roll a couple of jumps. The past four races I've done something stupid and thrown myself on the ground, so about 10 laps into it I just calmed down and tried to finish top-10 without doing anything dumb." 7l~ Troy Adams 20th MotoXXX's Adams had a night he'd rather forget. "I crashed in the first tum, and then I made my way up to about 11th, and then I just got cross-rutted in the whoops, and it just threw me over," he said. "Before that I felt really good. I was just keeping my eye on all of the guys up front, and I saw I was catching them at a I fast pace, and I knew I could keep that pace for the whole moto." He lost his front fender in the second crash. "That's my first time doing it Iriding without a front fender], but you can see more without the front fender - I was kind of surprised. I'm going to try it out, dirt-track style," he joked. 22 MAV7,2003' cue. e n _ _ so
