home, I worked hard, and I set a goal. I've got five down, and I've got one to go. I think it's like the U.S. Open - a tight track and a lot of money, it's the same as this. It's coming down for the championship, and it's all about racing. "It's coming down to the wire, and I want to win, and he wants to win, too. We're a step above everyone. We [Reed and Carmichael] work really, really hard during the week, and it shows on the weekends. He can go down, and I can go down and still get second, so it's just a shame that it has to end up like that. n There's also the matter of the race for bragging rights - assuming either Reed or Carmichael will win Vegas, whoever does will have the most wins oli the season with eight total. Eight-year-old Caden Hadley (rightJ. who won the KTM Jr. Supercross Challenge. actually doubled one of the triples every lap on the way to winning the exhibition. Waterhouse said that Preston had an MRI and he won't need surgery. but he'll miss the Dave Coombs Sr. 125cc East/West Shootout next week anyway, but the team's hopeful that he'll be ready to make his National debut on the CRF450R at Glen Helen. Michael Byrne should be back For the 125cc shootout. however. During opening ceremonies. Jeremy McGrath was complimentary of Chad Reed. saying that Reed was much quicker than he was. "Jeremy's a great guy. and I think he's the best champion we'lI ever have. - Reed said. "He's a real professionaL .. He made the right choices at the right time. and thafs why he's the best we'lI ever have. - McGrath stood up in the back of the press confer· ence after the comment and said. -Thank you." before applause broke out. Ricky Carmichael even managed to get booed in Salt Lake after he was the one getting taken out. "I came up on the short end of the stick. but I've got a lot to lose here, and those guys are desperate. - he said. "You know. I could be a really dirty rider (boos From the crowdl. but there's nothing I can do. I didn't take anyone out. I just Fell down. there was nothing I could do. He came in on the inside of me. I just have to ride protective. They're going to try and do whatever they can to beat me - ifs a championship. and they're trying as hard as they can. I just have to settle for second. (more boos). - Then he continued. -You definitely have to be aggressive. but there's a difference between riding aggressive and taking people out. I'm trying to save a championship here. and I don't want to go in there and put someone on the ground. Red Bull KTM's Billy Laninovich was sporting an aluminum gas tank on his 125 SX, Earlier in the year. SoBe Suzuki's Sean Hamblin was the only Factory Suzuki rider at Salt Lake City since the recent injury of teammate Danny Smith. Hamblin and Smith were the West Coast 125cc riders For the team before they both moved up to 250s for the East Coast - Hamblin permanently. Add this to the recent injury of recently crowned 125cc Eastern Region Supercross Champion Branden Jesseman. and you can see that SoBe Suzuki's woes haven't ended yet. As he has been in the past. Hamblin is still the team' s current bright spot. and after crashing at the last round and sitting out the main. he said he Felt much better in Utah, He finished fifth in the main event. There were a couple of falls in practice on Saturday. First. SoBe Suzuki's Sean Hamblin got off pretty hard in a rhythm section and limped off, though he soldiered on to a Fifth-place finish in the main. "I got a huge charlie horse right above my knee brace and a pretty big welt going on, but it didn't affect me." Hamblin said. Afterward in the same practice session. Team Honda's Ricky Carmichael got off hard on a tabletop section. though he got up qUickly and finished practice before receiving four stitches in his chin. ECC Suzuki's Shane Bess is staying at his manager's house now, and his improvement in Salt Lake was drastic, -He's somebody thafs improving, that's what I like. " Mike Craig said, "This way, if he tells me he's doing something. I live there, He's riding and buming gas and running. which are things he needs to be doing. I don't think he was doing it before - he was telling me he was. but he wasn't.·· Craig also commented on the recovery of Steve Lamson, "He's 100 percent."' Craig said, "He's been doing three 35-minute motos a day - dude. he's going to go off, His leg was never healed. but he'lI come back 100 percent. He's running and everything, He'lI be top-10 right away. and then he'lI take off, The guy doesn't need the money, but he calls me every day. and he's like. 'I'm ridingl' It's every day for him: I'm just like. 'Yeah!'" After the races. Travis Pastrana reportedly went to the nearby Ogio warehouse, where the company has a long roll-in bicycle ramp with a quarter-pipe jump into a foam pit. He was reportedly pulling double-backfiips on Friday at the Facility. Jeremy McGrath also made the trip earlier in the week and said the place was" really sweet. Ricky Carmichael was running new suspension at Rice-Eccles Stadium. "I changed my bike a lot new suspension this weekend. - Carmichael said. "I gave my suspension guy Mike Battista a chance and was running it the way that they wanted to run it. which is the right way. My way doesn't work. and ifs just going to be something that I have to adapt to. "Ifs been mentioned. and I haven't talked to the guys at Team Suzuki'- he said. -This industry's kind of like that. I'm new to this industry. and it just seems like a lot of people are talking. but I love where I'm at - but I'm not saying I wouldn't want to ride for Team Suzuki. they're a great team. as well. so, .. I really want to thank MotoworldRacing.com. I wouldn't be here without them. so I have to respect that."I think I need to let everybody know because every week that question pops up. My plan is to ride 250 West and then ride the 125 East Coast next year and see how that goes." James Stewart said in the post-race press conFerence. Then. when asked what iF he goes and wins a couple of rounds.. he responded. "Actually. I plan on winning a couple rounds out there anyway, so my plans are still the same." When asked iF he could beat Reed and Carmichael. Stewart said, "1 am not going to say I am going to lose. but I believe in my heart, and I think I would win. Last week at Dallas, I was pretty Fast on my 125. and I was out there riding by myself, and I was about a tenth of a second off, so I think halF the tracks I can win on a 125," Since he's an up-and-comer, Erv Braun asked Stewart if he's worried about the Alessis and Millsaps of the world. 'Tm not worried: you know those guys are going to be great when they come up." he said. "And actually, I haven't really had a good chance to watch those guys ride except at the Mini Os, I'm not worried, We'll see when those guys step up. I know they're going to be great.
