By MARK BaclW'tAl'I CHARLESTOWN, IN, MAR. 23 The weather was perfect for March. as sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted the 205 riders on hand for round six of the Podium One Gold Series at the Podium One Motoplex in Charlestown. Indiana. The Podium One staff had the track in great shape for the second day in a row, and once again they did a great job putting on the event. T.J. Blake had another perfect day. easily taking all four moto wins of the 250cc A and 125cc A classes on his Suspension Works/ Finish Line motorcycles. Blake nailed the holeshot on his CRF450R and went wire to wire in both 250cc A motos. Yamaha·mounted Tony Wiesenhahn finished second in both motos. followed by Steve Banet. on an Outback Steak House KTM. Blake took the holeshot for the win in the first 125cc A moto, but Rodney Carrier took the holeshot in the second moto on a Suspension Plus/Diamond Billiards Yamaha. Blake took the lead on the first lap and held on for the win; Carrier placed second in each mota. and Chris Bolte finished third on a Yamaha. Carrier still had a great day, winning all four motos of the Over 25 A and Over 30 A classes. Over 40-c1ass winner Rick Drake took the holeshot in the first moto of the Over 25 A class on a Honda, in front of Brad Lentz, on a Quality Window f, Door/Lids By Fid Yamaha, but Drake slid out coming out of the first turn. causing a small pileup. Carrier took the lead from Lentz on the first lap and kept it for the win, with Lentz taking second. Wiesenhahn finished third, in front of Richard Farmer, on a Mad Moto/Dreyer Honda. Drake worked back up to fifth. Lentz nailed the holeshot in the second mota, in front of Drake and Wiesenhahn, but Carrier took the lead on the first lap again. Lentz stayed close for second place, and Drake finished third, in front of Wiesenhahn and Farmer. Carrier took the win, in front of Lentz, and Wiesenhahn claimed third overall with a 3-4 score, in front of Drake and Farmer. Carrier took all four mota wins in the Over 30 A class, in front of Farmer and Honda rider Mike Ames. Blake took the holeshot for the win in the first moto of the 16-24 class as well but took a DNS in the second moto to avoid fatigue in the second 250cc A moto. Jason Mudd finished third in the first mota but took the holeshot for the win in the second mota on a KWIK Electronics/Podium One Honda. Daniel Shipp finished second overall with a 4-2 score on a Sam's Cycle Yamaha, in front of Yama· ha-mounted Matt Blake (6-3). Brandon Schmidt (7-4) finished fourth overall on an Adventure Sports Kawasaki, followed by Steven Doyen (5-6) on a MotoXtremes/SoCal Racing Kawasaki. Mudd also took both moto wins in the 250cc B class. in front of KTM jockey Jordan Flege and Ff,S Suzuki jockey Chad Canter, Yamaha-mounted Mike Corbin finished fourth in each moto. followed by Gary Hethcox, on a Paul's Cycle Supply Suzuki. Canter took the overall with a 5-3 tally in a slightly crazy but exciting 125cc B contest. Shipp took the holeshot in the first moto. in front of Motorcycle Speed Performance Suzuki jockey Brock Evans and Sign World Yamaha rider Michael Tester. Evans led the first lap. but Tester took the lead on lap two. Chris Brown joined the battle at the front on a Wheels For Fun Kawasaki, and Evans went down before the step-up jump coming out of the woods section of the track on lap three. Tester had a mechanical problem on the next lap and scored a DNF. and Brown took over the lead for the win. Evans finished second, in front of a close battle among Shipp, Flege and Canter. Canter nailed the holeshot in the second moto and led the first lap before hitting a hay bale on top of a jump and going down at the start of lap two. Evans and Tester started to fight for the lead. and Tester went down hard into the face of a small jump. Evans took over the lead, with Brown applying pressure in second place. Brown eventually passed Evans for the win, but unfortunately the top four riders were disqualified for jumping past the Tester crash site on the next lap, and Spy KTM rider Nick Lewis was credited with the win, in front of Yamaha rider Todd Needham and Canter. Lewis took second overall with an 8-1 tally. and Needham finished third with a 7·2 score, in front of Honda rider Chris Burchett and Suzuki jockey Sean Craver.
