Kunzel had a reasonably good race number one, finishing fourth, and he improved a lot in the second, with the second-place run. Then, in the main event, Kunzel got an extraordinary holeshot that allowed him to pull away for a safe run to the end. Kunzel, who won the last race of '02, in Australia, couldn't believe his solid race becallse the group of contenders is really aggressive. It includes Italian Max Manzo on the factory Vertemati, who finished third in the SuperFinal but is second in the standings, behind Kunze!. Manzo came out from the first two races with the best overall points, and his win in race number two was probably the best performance of the Mediterranean GP, as he had to work hard coming up from a mediocre start to finally prevail. He didn't get a good start in the main event, but he charged hard and tried at the same time to save his energy to eventually get on the podium. Manzo's Vertemati teammate, Belgium's Gerald Delepine, showed the same speed and ability, and while he got the best time on Saturday and won the race number one by leading all 12 laps, bad luck in the two other races meant that he collected few points in France. There is still more to be expected from the Husqvarna squad, from guys like Eddie Seel, and KTM's Boris Chambon. SeeI never really got going in the races, although he did cut the fastest lap in the SuperFinal. Chambon ran third in race two and collected the SuperPole as well. He finished fifth in the SuperFinal. The SuperFinal was great for Stephane Blot. The Yamaha-mounted Frenchman rode a solid heat and was a surprising second on the podium in the SuperFinal. Equally surprising was young Frenchman Adrien Chareyre, who got a fourth in the SuperFinal and is now third in the standings. eN &P of Mediterranean Marseille, Fnnce Results: April 13, 2003 [Round 1 of 14] RACE 1 (12 laps): 1.
