CHARLESTOWN, IN, MAR. 23
The weather was perfect for March. as sunny
skies and warm temperatures greeted the 205
riders on hand for round six of the Podium
One Gold Series at the Podium One Motoplex
in Charlestown. Indiana. The Podium One staff
had the track in great shape for the second
day in a row, and once again they did a great
job putting on the event.
T.J. Blake had another perfect day. easily
taking all four moto wins of the 250cc A and
125cc A classes on his Suspension Works/
Finish Line motorcycles. Blake nailed the
holeshot on his CRF450R and went wire to
wire in both 250cc A motos. Yamaha·mounted Tony Wiesenhahn finished second in both
motos. followed by Steve Banet. on an Outback Steak House KTM.
Blake took the holeshot for the win in the
first 125cc A moto, but Rodney Carrier took
the holeshot in the second moto on a Suspension Plus/Diamond Billiards Yamaha. Blake
took the lead on the first lap and held on for
the win; Carrier placed second in each mota.
and Chris Bolte finished third on a Yamaha.
Carrier still had a great day, winning all
four motos of the Over 25 A and Over 30 A
classes. Over 40-c1ass winner Rick Drake took
the holeshot in the first moto of the Over 25 A
class on a Honda, in front of Brad Lentz, on a
Quality Window f, Door/Lids By Fid Yamaha,
but Drake slid out coming out of the first turn.
causing a small pileup. Carrier took the lead
from Lentz on the first lap and kept it for the
win, with Lentz taking second. Wiesenhahn
finished third, in front of Richard Farmer, on a
Mad Moto/Dreyer Honda. Drake worked back
up to fifth.
Lentz nailed the holeshot in the second
mota, in front of Drake and Wiesenhahn, but
Carrier took the lead on the first lap again.
Lentz stayed close for second place, and
Drake finished third, in front of Wiesenhahn
and Farmer. Carrier took the win, in front of
Lentz, and Wiesenhahn claimed third overall
with a 3-4 score, in front of Drake and
Farmer.
Carrier took all four mota wins in the Over
30 A class, in front of Farmer and Honda rider
Mike Ames.
Blake took the holeshot for the win in the
first moto of the 16-24 class as well but took a
DNS in the second moto to avoid fatigue in
the second 250cc A moto. Jason Mudd finished third in the first mota but took the
holeshot for the win in the second mota on a
KWIK Electronics/Podium One Honda. Daniel
Shipp finished second overall with a 4-2 score
on a Sam's Cycle Yamaha, in front of Yama·
ha-mounted Matt Blake (6-3). Brandon
Schmidt (7-4) finished fourth overall on an
Adventure Sports Kawasaki, followed by
Steven Doyen (5-6) on a MotoXtremes/SoCal
Racing Kawasaki.
Mudd also took both moto wins in the
250cc B class. in front of KTM jockey Jordan
Flege and Ff,S Suzuki jockey Chad Canter,
Yamaha-mounted Mike Corbin finished fourth
in each moto. followed by Gary Hethcox, on a
Paul's Cycle Supply Suzuki.
Canter took the overall with a 5-3 tally in a
slightly crazy but exciting 125cc B contest.
Shipp took the holeshot in the first moto. in
front of Motorcycle Speed Performance Suzuki
jockey Brock Evans and Sign World Yamaha
rider Michael Tester. Evans led the first lap.
but Tester took the lead on lap two. Chris
Brown joined the battle at the front on a
Wheels For Fun Kawasaki, and Evans went
down before the step-up jump coming out of
the woods section of the track on lap three.
Tester had a mechanical problem on the next
lap and scored a DNF. and Brown took over
the lead for the win. Evans finished second, in
front of a close battle among Shipp, Flege and
Canter.
Canter nailed the holeshot in the second
moto and led the first lap before hitting a hay
bale on top of a jump and going down at the
start of lap two. Evans and Tester started to
fight for the lead. and Tester went down hard
into the face of a small jump. Evans took over
the lead, with Brown applying pressure in second place. Brown eventually passed Evans for
the win, but unfortunately the top four riders
were disqualified for jumping past the Tester
crash site on the next lap, and Spy KTM rider
Nick Lewis was credited with the win, in front
of Yamaha rider Todd Needham and Canter.
Lewis took second overall with an 8-1 tally.
and Needham finished third with a 7·2 score,
in front of Honda rider Chris Burchett and
Suzuki jockey Sean Craver.
