The 250cc B class featured another hardfought battle. Husky man Steve Cochran won the first moto with a strong ride. Proline Motorsports Yamaha pilot Mackey is riding the 250cc B class like he's been there a while instead of being a class newcomer; he took the second moto handily, but his third-place finish in the opening round held him back. Joshua McCarty's Honda was fast, and he took the last spot on the podium. Kris Swaney's Honda was the bike in the 250cc A and the Over 25 classes, which are the fastest events of the day. Swaney topped Yamaha rider Timothy Bantle. Tony Graham, on another red four-stroke, won the first moto and looked like he'd be the man in moto two, but a fourth-place finish held him to third overall. Kyle Kelly was the runner-up in the Over 25 division, behind Swaney. Kelly dogged Swaney throughout the second moto, but Kelly's two-stroke Yamaha couldn't get around Swaney's torque-monster Honda. Mark Taylor had a good view of the contest in front of him, finishing third. Kelly is lucky that following too close is allowed in motocross. Honda rider William Phee dominated the Over 35 and Over 40 classes in style. Brian Compton was after Phee, but besting his feliow Suzuki jockey Darrell Sim was all that could be done on this day. The Over 40 racers were hoping Phee had tired himself out. but it wasn't to be. KTM-mounted Benny Durrough finished strong for second, ahead of Yamaha man Dale Williams. The old adage about "old age and treachery" must be true, eh? It was an awesome weekend of racing. It looks like the Diamondback GPG series will be fine, if the first race is any indication. Large, well-laid-out tracks are hard to come by, but they got this one right - right out of the gate! APR. 5 Motowest Racing's fifth round in District 36 and the Goldrush Series was held on the baby short track at Lodi Cycle Bowl. The program started with an exciting race, the 50cc Stock C class. Nicholas Hodgson came off the line first and rode in the first spot to the third tum of the last lap - where Tanner Piccolotti bumped Hodgson, taking the lead to the checkers. Scott Hampton took home the tallest trophy in the Stock B class. and Jake Strong rode a great race, crouching down in every straight to gain momentum and working As America's only weekly_ !!'otorcycle publication, we're the only thing you get that you even realize IS late! (When was the last time you knew your montfily magazine was a week later than usual?) Most Cycle News subscriptions are delivered via 2nd Class mail. The bulk of what you pay for on your annual subscription is postage. You are paying for bener delivery than what you have been receiving... why? Around the beginning of 1997, the U.S. Postal Service reclassified all publications into whal they call "Periodicals" for the purposes of delivery speed. That means they now lump your Cycle News in with all the monthly publicatIOns and deliver them with the same urgency (or lack of urgency). All Cycle News can do on our end is get the paper shipped immediately afler each weekend's evenL~, and into the mail sy~lem, whIch we do, every Tuesday morning, withoul fail (except on weeks with a Monday holiday. then we prim Tuesday and ship your paper on Wednesday morning). After that, it's oul of our hands, and you need to register your delivery complaint WIth the U.s. Postal Service, not us. We're as frustrateO as you are, and until there's some better method (at a reasonable cost) to get your Cycle News delivered quicker, we're all stuck with the same problem. Here are your alternatives for better service: If you are able 10 pay for faster service, first-class mail delivery within the United States for Cycle News, annual subscription price: $130.00. (Outside the U.S.. firstclass delivery is available for $150.00; Canada & Mexico are $!45.00). Cycle News' toll-free subscription hotline is 1-800-831-2220. - orRegister your delivery complaints Wilh the U,S. Postal Service on-line at: www.usps.comlfeedbacklfeedback.htm or, call the U.S. Postal Service loll-free consumer hotline - 24 hours a day, seven days a week - al !·800·ASK·USPS (1·800·275·8777). Please keep your message brief. to the point, descriptive of your delivery problems. and as polite as possible. If the USPS hears from enough customers, they can only poy attention and improve their service. eye I e n e _ s APRIL 23, 2003 81
