By GREG ROBERTSON PAlJ'\DALE, CA, MAR. 30 Thousand Oaks Kawasaki teammates Jonathan Shimp and Bobby Bonds collected the 125cc and 250cc Pro-class wins, respectively, at Los Angeles County Raceway during the opening round of the California Racing Club's 26th annual Tri-Race Series. Come for the race. Discover the place. .~ OL>GE ahead of Dudek and Mike Meadows. Bagge bagged the second-moto holeshot aboard his YZ250F, but Shimp literally elbowed his way into the lead on the opening lap. Bagge went off the track and back to fourth place, while Keefer and Dudek slipped up into second and third, respectively. Keefer closed to Shimp's back fender and hounded him for the entire moto but finished a close second. Dudek had his hands full with Hulsey but kept him at bay to earn the third-place payback. Bagge went 6-5 to round out the top five. CRF450R-mounted Shane Smith won the drag race to the first tum in the first 250cc Pro moto, ahead of Shimp, Keefer and Bonds. Bonds and Shimp double-teamed Smith for the first couple of laps before Bonds went undemeath Smith to steal away the top spot. Once out front, Bonds pulled away for the win. Shimp found a way around Smith, but Smith put up a fight right up until the checkers flew and finished a close third. Keefer was just a few seconds back in fourth, followed by Chris Barrett and Meadows. Shimp escaped with the early lead in moto two. Smith settled into second, ahead of Keefer and Meadows, while Bonds was near the back of the pack. By lap three, though, Bonds was up into second place and closing in on Shimp. Though Shimp put up a good fight for a couple of laps, Bonds finally found some daylight on the penultimate circuit and got by for good. Smith kept Keefer at bay on the last lap to go 3-3 for third, behind Shimp. eye. e n e vv s APRIL 23, 2003 73
