BRIEFLY••• The first of two rounds to be held in this high desert southwest of Sail Lake City. the popular Sageriders event draws on a broad base of off-road enthusiasts from Utah and Nevada and attracts riders from all over the West. This year s event saw a total of 310 entrants for the National and another 50 riders in the mini class. The Sageriders expressed gratitude to the many people who made it possible and who helped put this event on. in particular Frank and Joyce Vin· cent. across whose land the course crossed many times. When Paul Krause went to pick up his rental car. they told him they had a compact car reselVed for him. He jokingly commented to the agent. -Don't you know who I am?" (Below right) Defending champ Tv Davis couldn't get his big thumper fired right away at the start and had to come through from behind for fifth. Veteran desert racer Paul Krause chased current Four-Stroke titleholder Taber Murphy for much of the race, even putting his KTM in front of the big Honda briefly on the second loop. But a couple of off-trail excursions by Krause allowed Murphy to get back around, and nagging gearbox problems kept Krause from mounting a challenge for the class win. They crossed the line 10th and 11th overall. Right behind the big thumpers, a hot contest for the 125cc-c1ass honors was being waged as David Rees charged to hold off Kendall Norman. Rees prevailed, taking the class win and 13th overall. eN Sageridens Me Here & Hound Oelte, Utah Results: April 12, 2003 IRound 21 O/A: I. Russ Pearson (Yam); 2. Destry Abbott (Kaw); 3.
