Lew lambasted the pack to lead O'Driscoli and Skyler Damron out onto the course as race action heated up for the second half. Lew was looking good until a crash at the start of lap two put him out of the running. Meyer took over, but O'Driscoll was right there, and he zapped Cole on the freeway on the whiteflag lap and took the win and the overall 125cc Junior crown. Meyer finished a strong second. Crowe's 4-1 score earned the 125cc C division win in a points tie over Crosby (2-3). lack's brother Josh Crosby netted third overall after first-moto winner Jake Allen was slowed in mota two. Allen's 1-8 tally was still good enough for fourth overall. Foothills Motorsports teammates .Crowe and Allen again matched wheels in the 250cc C contest. Allen's come-fram-behind effort in moto one and a holeshot in moto two garnered a 4-1 score and runner-up honors. Meanwhile. Crowe posted a 1-2 score for the gold. Crowe was subsequently voted GPG Rider Of The Week for his perfonmance in this class! Some of the day's closest racing took place in the 85cc (12-15) Senior Mini division, Mota one started off with a bang, as Aryton Dunkel and Nate Martin swapped the lead back and forth at least four times just during the opening lap, On lap two, however, Martin was all alone in front. Dunkel showed up much later· in the DNF column. Martin held on for the moto win. ahead of Benjamin Hamilton. Streifthau, S1ft1aney Ace Aonia By GARY CRIDER WASHINGTON, GA, MAR. 2 The AMA/GPG Best Of Georgia MX Championship series got off to a messy start after heavy rain drenched the course the day before the opening round at Aonia Pass Motorplex. The weather cleared for race day, and more than 380 entrants, representing eight states. came to attack the muddy track, The mud wasn't deep, and the track began to dry out after a half-dozen motos. Early conditions. however, quickly separated the experienced mud riders from the fair· weather racers. This was Torre Streifthau's first time racing at Aonia Pass, but it was obviously not-his first time racing in the mud: The Tennessee resi· dent romped to the wins in all four motos of tough 125cc and 250cc B competition. In addition to the usual plaques and points, SYD/Tom's Cycle-backed Streifthau also collected more than $250 in factory contingency funds from Yamaha and Suzuki. In the 125cc B contest, the battle for runner-up honors was close. The silver eventually went to Brent Carden after the Epps Racing-backed rider posted 5-2 finishes, ahead of Bradley Richard- son (6-3). Richardson netted third in a points tie over Justin Ashbum. Carden returned in the fierce 125cc Youth division, where his 3- I tally edged the 2-2 finishes posted by Jesse Luttrell. A sixth-place finish in moto two held first-moto winner Zach Crasby to third overall. Ringgold, Georgia's Kris Swaney set a fast pace in the 125cc and 250cc A races, winning all four motos. In the 250cc A contest, Dwayne Bone. riding a borrowed bike, forced Swaney to work hard for his moto wins. Bone led the opening laps of both matos, but he failed to finish moto one. In moto two, Bone had to settle for second place after Swaney took the lead away from him during the final moments. Aaron Lindsey made his A-class debut a memorable event, finishing second in both '125cc A motos. behind Swaney. Gainesville Motorsports' Lindsey returned in the 250cc A division. where he placed third overall. Swaney also rode in the Over 25 division, but this time he had to take a back seat to Ashley Epps, who won both motos ahead of Swaney. Epps returned in the Over 30 division, where he again won both motos. Florida's lack Alkire (3-4) was third overall. Dunkel finished fifth in mota two, but his first-mota DNF held him to an unlucky 13th overall. These same four riders squared off again in the Supermini class. Martin got the motoone holeshot. and Hamilton did likewise in moto two. Alkire. however, caught fire and moved his Suzuki quickly into the lead both times, eventually winning the class with a 1-1 score. GPG Supermini defending champion Martin had to settle for runner-up, over Dunkel and Hamilton. Due to the difficuit, muddy conditions, all 50ce classes were run on a separate course, laid out in a nearby grassy area. Kyle Clark, the defending GPG 50cc (4-6) class champion, won both matos, Capitol Cycle's Clark then returned to win both Oil·lnjected motos as well. The 65cc bikes raced on the regular course. and their smaller wheels seemed to cause the riders some problems in the mud. More than half of the 16 riders in the 65cc (7 -9) class either fell or stalled during the first lap of the opening mota. Suzuki pilot Chris Marie and KTM rider Mason Jones didn't seem to be bothered by the mud, and they finished first and second, respectively, in the opening moto. The tie-breaking second-moto win belonged to Epps Cycle/Jenks Racing-backed Jones, who earned the gold over Marie.
