locked up fourth with a 4-4 score. James Dennison got edged out to fifth with a 3-5 tally. Brothers Michael and Chris Asbury swapped moto wins in the 125cc C class. These two always have interesting races. Chris took the overall win with a 1-2 punch, while Chris took second with a 3-1 tally. Blake Simpson (2-3) took third overall. Zack Kutschenko had a tough time holding off Devin Hargett but held on to the first spot in the 125cc B class. Hargett had problems and was a no-show for the second moto. Tray Dobson couldn't hold off Hargett in the Schoolboy class, but since Hargett was a no-show in that second moto as well, Dobson took first overall. Thomas Neuens had no competition in the 85cc (7-11) or Unlimited Mini classes, so he easily gamered the first-place plaques in both NATIONAl. MX PROMOTIERS GROUP classes. The 50cc victors went uncontested to sweeps in both classes. The 50cc Shaft win was taken by Malik Miles, and second went to Cleve Thompson. In the 50cc (4-6) contest, Brandon Dennison swept first, and Jesse Bal- ance took second. Wesley Sapp, the lone 250cc A rider, got in some good practice en route to sweeping that class. Holiday Inn A Night of 014 MX Champions By BART NEWMAN JACKSON, MI, FEB. 21 With a crowd exceeding 400, the annual District 14 Motocross banquet couldn't be called anything but a success. Riders from all over the state converged on Jackson, Michigan, to collect individual awards, catch up with fellow racers, and take a shot at claiming some of the great door prizes up for grabs. The Mini riders' goodie bags were filled with great stuff from the good folks at Doktor Racing, MCR Suspension, Big Air MX, Winner's Circle Vamaha, Log Road MX, Magic Racing, K&W Vamaha, NGK Sparkplugs, FMF Performance, and Spectro Oils, while the bigbike riders enjoyed the generosity of TechCare Suspension, Gaskils Honda, Dutch Sport Park, Pianet Honda, Red Bud MX, Magnum Distributing, Fast Times, Moreland's MX, No Fear, and HJC Helmets. Along with the rider awards, District 14 MX also hands out specialty awards throughout the night. Dr. James Hunt was the 2002 District 14 MX Parent of the Vear. Doc Hunt encourages his son Lewis with class and digni· ty rather than adjectives and volume. District 14 MX Rider of the Vear went to second-generation Michigan racer Kyle Brown, who finished second in the 250cc B class and third overall in the 125cc Junior class. Red Bud MX and its founder, Gene Ritchje, came home winners as well. Red Bud MX earned District 14 MX Track of the Vear honors. By combining Gene's savvy, Angie's organizational skills, Amy's drive and Tim's track-building skills, the Ritchies provide an almost unbeatable combination. Gene was given the 2002 District 14 MX Lifetime Achievement Award. Gene founded Red Bud MX on a dream and a prayer more than 32 years ago. Through hard work and a love of the sport, he has turned Red Bud MX into America's track. Gene has been a fixture in District ]4 MX since its inception, and he has been both a hero and an inspiration to me, and I am proud to call him a friend. District 14 MX introduced the group of young men who have advanced to the top level of Amateur racing in District 14 for 2003. They have worked hard to get to this level, and everyone's proud of all of them: Nick Adams, Judd Bagladi. Ronald Bowers, Josh Bracken, Kyle Brown, Rob Gnagey, Fred Karrie, Dan Krick, Josh Lichtie, Brent Milier, Eric Miller, Joshua Pike. Travis Sewell, Scotty Thomason, Michael Tomanek, Tyler Weston, Henry Wiles and Mike Willey.
