merican Suzuki tipped the scale
in the win column once again at
the amateur motocross season open·
er - the 9th Annual AMA Spring Classic held at Lake Whitney Motocross
Park in the Lone Star State. Davi Millsaps of Georgia led the Suzuki
brigade with three wins among the
125cc B Stock and both 125cc Youth
Stock and Modified events. He also
collected two second-place finishes one behind fellow teammate Kyle
Partridge in the 125cc B Modified
event and the other behind longtime
rival Mike Alessi in the Four-Stroke
Mini class.
American Honda's Alessi had a
banner week, collecting four wins
among the four days of racing, making him the top winner of the entire
event. Alessi's stellar performance in
the 85cc (14-15) Stock, 85cc (1415) Modified, Senior Supermini and
Four-Stroke Mini events saw him win
every moto entered.
The strongest performance in the
Yamaha ranks was from Michigan's
Nick Adams. Adams raced at the
controls of the 250cc A and 250cc
A/Pro Sport, in addition to the FourStroke 201-650cc.
One of the best races of the week,

Chris Young. KTM·mounted Chris
Torrance led the first moto off the
gate, but Bowyer took the lead out of
the horseshoe before the big climb up
Mount Whitney. Young followed
Bowyer's lead, and the race was on.
Positions changed six times
between Bowyer and Young as they
went at it head to head over the
course of the moto. Bowyer made it
stick in the final section of the course
just short of the checkered flag in the
rhythm section. Californian Joey
Rodriguez finished third.
"I could barely hold on that last
lap," said Fox/Oakley/DC Shoesbacked Bowyer. "It's been five years
since I raced, and it took all I could to
get through that last lap. As we started through the rhythm section, I
moved over on Young to make the
lead stick and blocked him. He
wasn't real happy about it, but we
talked later, and it was all good."
The second moto saw Rodriguez
take the lead out of the chute as
