race, chances of getting in some racing was looking slim. Luckily. Mother Nature started cooperating around noon with some much· needed sunshine. After two rounds of practice and some grooming from the Swainsboro Flat Track crew, the track was getting better. There was traction to be found high, low, and in between. Salem. Alabama's Scott Kay took full advantage of the superb track conditions and brought home two class wins. In Over 30 action, Kay had his hands full with Troy Abels. The two traded passes on several occasions throughout the main. In the end. it was Kay taking the win on his Wiseco/Vortex/AFAM/PBW/K&N -sponsored machine. Abels held on for a close second. Kay powered his way to the front once again in the Open Novice class. Columbus Cycle rider Scott Waddington was close behind. Although Waddington was charging hard, he couldn't find a way by the steadyriding Kay. Zach Olliff was another double-class winner on the day, Olliff grabbed wins in the 85cc and 125cc classes. In the 85cc class, Olliff felt tons of pressure, with South Carolina rider Justin Davis on his heels. Davis showed Olliff a wheel every chance he got, but he couldn't get a good enough drive to make a pass. Olliff took the victory on his e.0. Logging/Jay's Fuel Stop/B&T Oil ride. Coming in a very close second was Davis, on his Ed Sally-tuned Kawasaki. Connecticut rider Gary LaChance put his big XR750 out front in the Open Amateur class. Kay was right there in second on his Yamaha. Abels and Olliff were also on the move. in third and fourth. laChance was able to pull a slight lead over the rest of the field, leaving Kay, Abels and Olliff to battle for second. MAR. 8 The season opener was moved from Calhoun to Bremen, due to the heavy rains that flooded out the Gordon County facility. It's good to have a couple of tracks in the family so no one misses the opening of the season. Once again, the Kellys put together a great event, and the track was in great shape. Freewheeling Honda/LSD Racing's Clayton Henderson put his CR J25 at the head of two classes on the weekend. In the Youth (12-15) class, Henderson was followed by Kawasaki jockey Richie Gibson, and Honda pilot D.J. Mitchell kept them honest with a strong third. Henderson's next task was winning the 125cc C division. Jonathan Eller and Chris Castle kept the podium an all-Honda affair. Now Henderson has a target on his back, so we'll see how he does this season. Kyle Russell also had a winning Saturday night, putting his Cobra in front of the 50cc Open and 50cc (7 -9) classes. The way this young man rides is a show to watch in any case, but as he's on a 50, it's awesome. Husky man Jacob Seagraves kept the KTMmounted Kyle Hurston in third in the 50cc Open event. In the 50cc (7-9) race, Russell was out front again, while Hurston topped Seagraves this time out. The night of double winners continued with Broc Hinkley, who rode his new KTM to the top spot of the Unlimited Amateur podium. Honda rider Bobby Scoggins kept him honest, ",':\" LIMITED EDITION MOTORCYCLE ART BY HARRY MILLER -"'l' . ........ -~::-"'-..::-' ".~~:; ~ ~ • ., l~"",'-' -- . " ...
