In the 80cc B class, McNamara was followed to the flag by Garret Willis. Stephen Sikorski and D.J. Darrah each felt the thrill of victory, in the XRlOO Youth Band C classes. respectively. Sixteen riders lined up for the XR 100 Sportsman Stock C class, and once again Tyler Pullen and Jason Pullen took the first two spots. Edward Viloton finished third. Willis pulled out all the stops to finish first in the 100cc Modified Youth class, in front of D.J. Sharkey, who led the race until the last three laps. Joseph Hernandez topped the 125cc B class, riding flawlessly until the last straight. where he bobbled going into the checkers. One of this night's most exciting races was the Pro-Am. Jimmy Lewis shot off the line to take the lead at the start and never looked back, but behind him, back in sixth, Nick Moore was using every ridable part of this track to pick off the riders in front of him until he crossed the line second. Kenny Carlotta finished third. The night's most unusual moment occurred when Carter Fisher, riding a great race aboard his 250cc Bultaco, suddenly found himself lying on the track when his bike frame broke into two pieces coming out of turn two - nothing was holding it together raeman. 125 C: I. Los Angeles County Raceway The Vet A event was an edge-of-your-seat affair. Twelve riders came off the line and went into tum one with Paul "Hollywood" Sanbum out in front by a small margin. Riding a very fast and exceptional race, Sanbum maintained that lead throughout the contest, pulling away from everyone except Jason Paoli, who was awaiting the opportunity of an error on the leader's part. That error never occurred, and Sanbum, in true Hollywood style, wowed the crowd with his victory. Wood Rotax-sponsored Mark Corsetti finished first in the Open A contest. After two restarts, track time only allowed a two-lap main event. Carlotta was second, followed by Danny Casey. Slater Proves to be Greater BY GREG ROBERTSON PALMDALE,CA,MAR.2 When the dust finally settled on the J.B. Memorial Track at Los Angeles County Raceway, it was Ken Slater Jr. who prevailed, with a hard-fought 1-1 score in the 125cc Beginner class, during Califomia Racing Club's Sunday motocross. As the gate dropped for the first moto, Mike McCarron absconded with the holeshot, just ahead of Chris Shipley, Slater and Joshua Brandes. Within the first lap. Slater made his way into the top spot, with McCarron a close second. The stage was set for the remainder of the race, as Slater controlled the pace out front, with McCarron all over his back fender, just waiting for the opportunity to make his move. McCarron would have to settle for a close second at the checkers, as Slater put in a flawless ride for the win. Brandes broke free of Shipley to eam third. Damon Butts rounded out the top five. Moto two was more of the same, as McCarron and Slater battled over the lead throughout the race, but this time McCarron held a slight advantage out front. Slater finally slipped past McCarron while entering a long series of jumps on the penultimate lap. McCarron tried to retaliate with an inside pass of his own a few tums later, only to lose his front end and go down. That was just the Results P/W STK c: I. Vinny Acosta: 2. TlInn~r PittOlotti; J. McCarron remounted to easily finish in second, ahead of a great battle for third that went down to the wire, with Shipley holding off both Brandes and Butts to earn the third-place trophy. Chris Plouffe piloted his pair of Answer/Factory Effex/Pit Pro/Renthal-backed Kawasakis to four straight moto wins to dominate both the 65cc (9-11) and 85cc (7-11) classes. Cody Eastman was runner-up to Plouffe in both 65cc motos, ahead of Andreas Burlet. Chandler Quimette got the holeshot in both 85cc races but couldn't quite match Plouffe's pace on the day. The battle over second place was pretty intense among Quimette, Cooper Hall and Keith Robinson. Quimette (4-2) came out on top of a threeway points tie with Hall (3-3) and Robinson (2-4) to prevail.
